Red Zone from Congressman Palazzo

The Red Zone from Mississippi Congressman Steven Palazzo

Congressman Steven Palazzo
Veto Override
After seven long years, last month Congress finally sent a bill to the president’s desk that strips funding from Obamacare as well as Planned Parenthood. Not surprisingly, the president vetoed this bill. This week we continued to voice the will of the American people by voting to override the president’s veto.

While we may not be able to achieve our end goal this week, what this does prove is without a doubt Congress has the power to repeal Obamacare once we have a Republican in the White House. We're in the red zone and it's up to the American people this year to help forge a path so that we can put an end to these disastrous policies and get our country back on track.

This week in the House we passed the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act that will strengthen sanctions on Iran. However, these actions wouldn’t be necessary if the president had listened to Congress and the American people and never agreed to this bad deal with Iran.
As anticipated, Iran has continued to show its unwillingness to cooperate and adhere to the terms of international agreements. They recently disgraced our own men and women in uniform by publicizing the capture of ten U.S. Navy personnel, without consequence from our administration. Once again Congress is working to clean up the president’s mess and take a stand against this intolerable behavior.

Thursday, the House of Representatives unanimously passed an amended version of the bipartisan Research Excellence and Advancements for Dyslexia Act (READ) Act. The bill is now headed to the President’s desk!

The READ Act authorizes dyslexia research projects that allow the National Science Foundation to focus on best practices in the following areas:
  • Early identification of children and students with dyslexia
  • Professional development about dyslexia for teachers and administrators
  • Curricula development and evidence-based educational tools for children with dyslexia
I’m honored to be selected as a Co-Chairman of the House Aerospace Caucus to serve as the voice for the aerospace and defense industry in Congress. I understand the vital role this industry plays in our country’s economic stability, technological advancement and ability to compete globally, and most importantly our national security efforts.

As your Representative in South Mississippi I’ve had the privilege of working alongside this industry in an effective partnership for many years. I look forward to continuing to work with the aerospace and defense industry to accomplish many future successes.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl Sunday! As always, if we can be of any assistance please call or visit my office.
