Shelby cosponsors Sessions-Cruz Bill for ICE

From the office of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby - Shelby Cosponsors Sessions, Cruz Bill to Support ICE Agents with Enforcing Immigration Laws

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) today cosponsored the ICE Agent Support Act of 2016 (S.2538).

This bill would give Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) additional vital resources to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and secure our border.

S.2538 would collect fines from illegal immigrants for various offenses, and the penalties would become revenue for the agency to hire additional ICE officers.

“President Obama continually refuses to enforce our nation’s immigration laws,” said Senator Shelby.

“His disregard for the rule of law only encourages immigrants to ignore our laws as well – further exacerbating our immigration crisis.

The ICE Agent Support Act of 2016 reinforces support for the ICE agents who work tirelessly to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and secure our border.

It is past time to put an end to protecting those who come here illegally while neglecting those who work to protect us.”
