Judge confirms Trump’s greatest fear

Michele Hickford - Editor-in-Chief
Unfortunately the national dialog at the moment is not about how the IRS targeted conservatives, or how millions of Americans will see their health insurance premiums rise AGAIN because of Obamacare, or how thousands of illegal immigrants continue to flood our borders. Thankfully, we seem to be done talking about Target’s bathroom policy and a dead gorilla.

However, now both Democrats and Republicans are up in arms over Donald Trump’s comments that a judge of Mexican heritage (with ties to La Raza) might not be able to have an unbiased view while presiding over the Trump University case.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich called those comments the biggest mistake of Trump’s campaign. Current Speaker Paul Ryan said the comments were a textbook definition of racism.

How DARE Trump infer that a judge’s ethnicity – or gender for that matter – might influence their decisions.

Well you know who might also dare to infer that? A Latina Supreme Court Justice. Does the name Sonia Sotomayor ring a bell? Let’s take a trip through the Wayback Machine…

As the New York Times reported in 2009, In 2001, Sonia Sotomayor, an appeals court judge, gave a speech declaring that the ethnicity and sex of a judge “may and will make a difference in our judging.”

In her speech, Judge Sotomayor questioned the famous notion — often invoked by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her retired Supreme Court colleague, Sandra Day O’Connor — that a wise old man and a wise old woman would reach the same conclusion when deciding cases.

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” said Judge Sotomayor, before she was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.

Judge Sotomayor has given several speeches about the importance of diversity. But her 2001 remarks at Berkeley, which were published by the Berkeley La Raza Law Journal, went further, asserting that judges’ identities will affect legal outcomes.

“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences,” she said, for jurists who are women and nonwhite, “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.”

Wait! What? You mean a wise Latina woman – who also happens to be ultra-liberal – AGREES with The Donald?

Where is the OUTRAGE from the media? Where is the dismay from Paul Ryan and Newt Gingrich? You mean to tell me there’s a double standard in all of this?

The left’s hypocrisy is absolutely astounding. Gender and race aren’t supposed to matter — until they say so. The left, who is so concerned with gender equality and color-blindness, invented “women’s issues” and “Black History Month.” Only a liberal is ever allowed to say ethnicity and gender can influence judicial decisions.

So for all the Never Trumpers out there — Donald just failed the liberal test. He got hammered for it.
