Congressman Palazzo: Investing in Mississippi

Meet Mississippi Congressman Steve Palazzo
Last week in the House we passed the 2017 Defense Appropriations bill. Once again, we’ve done our job and passed a bill that fully funds our military, in spite of a number of House Democrats who turned their backs on our men and women in uniform by voting against this legislation. This marks the third time in a little over a month that they have put their liberal agenda in front of our troops and veterans, and I’m tired of these political games.

The common defense of our nation is our number one constitutional responsibility in Congress and should not be held up by partisan gridlock. I was proud to support this year’s defense funding bill, and I hope the Senate will quickly follow suit and send this legislation to the President in short order.

This defense bill also contains essential funding for gulf coast shipyards, continued investment in unmanned aerial systems, and investments in aerospace critical to our men and women in uniform. Overall Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District employs more than 20,000 military and DOD civilian personnel with an annual economic impact of over $1.6 billion.

Teletown Hall

Last Monday night I held a tele-town hall where I was joined by South Mississippians from every county in the 4th District for a live discussion over the phone. Throughout the tele-town hall I shared brief updates on what we’re working on in Congress, but more importantly it was an opportunity for me to hear from you on the issues that are important to South Mississippi.

During the call we were able to touch on many topics from national security, jobs and the importance of sound federal investment in South Mississippi. I also asked everyone to participate in several poll questions, and the results to those questions are displayed below.

Listening to my constituents and making sure your voices are heard is my number one priority, so again thank you to everyone who participated. If you weren’t able to partake in the call Monday night I hope you will join us next time - we have one coming up in the month of July!
