Former Marriott executive and local news anchor, 64 year old, Kathleen Matthews launched her candidacy for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District seat, kicking off her 2016 campaign with an early morning announcement in downtown Silver Spring.
She brings a name well known both from her 25 years as a reporter and anchor for WJLA and her marriage to MSNBC “Hardball” host, 70 year old, Chris Matthews.
Their deep network of friends and allies in Washington is likely to be a boon to fundraising.
You may recall that, a few months ago, Chris Matthews made waves by asking DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz a very simple question: "What's the difference between a Democrat and a Socialist? After all, Bernie Sanders is a proud socialist and Dems like to claim that label doesn't apply to them. Wasserman Schultz, unsurprisingly, couldn't answer the question.
Apparently she found it difficult to outline a difference where none exists.
Now, Chris is back with the same question. This time he's asking it of the Dems' inevitable 2016 candidate, Hillary Clinton. Obviously, the former First Lady saw the embarrassing Wasserman Schultz interview and had an answer prepared, right? Right? ~ Wrong.
Once again, it's impossible to outline the many, many, differences between a modern Democrat candidate and a socialist - because there aren't any. Matthews and Clinton may like to pretend they're not socialists, but the policies they champion tell a different story.
Chris Matthews knows when he's got a question that will make the politicians squirm.
By the way Chris - Why not ask your wife! Afterall, she is a Democrat and a candidate for public office.
