In Washington with Congressman Palazzo

This Week in Washington from the offices of Mississippi Congressman Palazzo

Said Congressman Steven Pallazo in his briefing to PRonlineNews, 'this week, I introduced the
Congressman Palazzo - Mississsippi
Disaster Tax Extension Assurance Bill. This legislation would help grant peace of mind following a natural disaster that the IRS won’t penalize victims for missed deadlines.

The current process is less predictable and less consistent than it should be. That is why I proposed an automatic 90 day extension for individuals and businesses affected by a federally-declared disaster.

By making the extension automatic, those affected by a disaster are given certainty and relief when it comes to filing their taxes during their difficult time.
I was also pleased to see that the House Financial Services Committee passed The Flood Insurance Market Parity and Modernization Act, a bill of which I'm a cosponsor.

Our overall goal is to ensure flood insurance remains available and affordable to homeowners. Flood insurance is a very complex issue and this bill addresses one of the many problems in Biggert-Waters by helping bring private insurers back into the marketplace.

Over the next year as we come closer to reauthorizing the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), I hope this will be the first of many to tackle flood insurance reform.

This week in DC
  • I enjoyed meeting with the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board to discuss important issues regarding our veterans.
  • I had a great meeting with the Mississippi Humanities Council discussing their 2015-2016 accomplishments and plans for the future!
  • I also spoke with the Mississippi Space Grant Consortium and heard about their ongoing projects and activities that support the aerospace science and technology efforts in our state.
  • Entergy Mississippi came to meet about the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.
  • I also met with Colonel Chytka, District Commander of the Mobile Corps of Engineers this week to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects in Mississippi.'

Your comments are always welcome and you can contact Congressman Palazzo on facebook, twitter or by visiting his website.
