Nurse and Pastor object to abortion

A pastor and a nurse want Congress to pass legislation that would allow Americans the freedom to opt out of the abortion process.

Chris Lewis, lead pastor of Foothill Church in Glendora, California, says his congregation doesn’t want to be coerced into covering abortions on employee health insurance plans.

But that is exactly what the state of California is doing, Lewis told The Daily Signal in a phone interview.

Lewis said it is “shocking” that the state Department of Managed Health Care would force his 1,000-member church, against its deeply held religious convictions, to cover abortion in the health plans of roughly 100 employees.

“We’re stuck in this horrible place,” Lewis told The Daily Signal. “We’re essentially being coerced by the state to violate our conscience.”

“We don’t want to have to cover [abortion],” he said.

Pastor Chris Lewis says that the state of California is coercing his church to cover abortions on health insurance plans.

Lewis spoke on Capitol Hill at a House forum in July on conscience rights, urging Congress to pass the Conscience Protection Act.

Among about eight others who spoke was a nurse of 26 years, Fe Esperanza Racpan Vinoya.

“I became a nurse to help people, but not to do harm,” Vinoya said.

In 2014, the state of California issued an order requiring all health insurance plans to cover abortion, without a religious exemption.

Lewis said he and his congregation believe life begins at conception, and covering abortions on employee health plans violates the church’s core tenets.

“I can’t believe that we as a church, with this fundamentally, deeply held conviction of ours, can be put in a position to violate our conscience like this,” Lewis said. “We felt like we were over a barrel.” He added:
On the one hand, we’re required to offer coverage under Obamacare. We want to provide that for our employees. … We want to care for them. We want to care for their families. At the same time, we’re being told … to have coverage of the termination of all pregnancies, regardless [whether it is] elective or otherwise.
“I’m really troubled by the idea that the state can just say it doesn’t matter, that your religious freedoms don’t matter to us,” Lewis said. The House of Representatives passed the Conscience Protection Act, introduced by Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., by a vote of 245-182 the week after the forum where Lewis and Vinoya spoke.

The legislation would prohibit the federal government and state or local governments that receive federal health dollars from penalizing or discriminating against health care providers for refusing to “perform, refer for, pay for, or otherwise participate in abortion.”

The legislation is the House’s amended version of an originally unrelated Senate bill sponsored by Sen. John Thune, R-S.D. The Senate now must vote on the amended bill.

President Barack Obama is expected to veto the measure should it win final passage in his final five months in office.

The Obama administration “strongly opposes” the legislation, according to a statement from the Executive Office of the President.

“This bill would unduly limit women’s health care choices by allowing a broadly defined set of health providers (including secular sponsors of employer-based health coverage) to decline to provide abortion coverage based on any objections,” the statement says.

Donna Crane, vice president of policy at NARAL Pro-Choice America, described the Conscience Protection Act as legislation that “lets even more people get in between you and the health care you choose.”

Vinoya, the veteran nurse, told The Daily Signal that she doesn’t want to be forced to participate in abortions.

About five years ago, Vinoya was part of a group of 12 pro-life nurses who sued the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey over a hospital rule that would force all nurses to assist in abortions.

“No one actually knew what to do because the management was saying to us that we were going to lose our job or … be transferred to another unit [for not cooperating],” Vinoya said.

It was a “horrible feeling” for everybody, she said.

The university’s hospital in Newark said at the time that it was not directly forcing nurses to participate in any abortions.

In her remarks July 8 during the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Forum on Protecting Conscience Rights, Vinoya said:
Participating in the destruction of human life is not only a violation of my religious convictions as a Christian, it also conflicts with my calling as a medical professional to protect life, not to end it.
After a court hearing in 2011, the New Jersey hospital agreed not to force the pro-life nurses to assist in abortions.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal aid group, represents Lewis and his church as well as Vinoya and the other pro-life nurses.

“I think that the [Conscience Protection Act] should be passed for professionals like me who are not fortunate enough to have people … who have selflessly helped us get through this ordeal and saved us our jobs,” Vinoya told The Daily Signal.

Lewis said he wants to stand up for the rights of unborn children.

“The most voiceless people in the culture are the unborn,” Lewis said. “We want to be a part of not further propagating abortions and allowing that to happen, but actually trying to see [abortions] reduced [and] restricted.”

Not voting on election day is OK

You Don't Vote? You're not alone. Tens of millions of American adults don't take part in elections, and most of them have perfectly good reasons for abstaining.

In 2014, according to the US Census Bureau, 28 percent of nonvoters said they were too busy with other things, and 10 percent were out of town. Another 16 percent weren't interested in the election, and 8 percent didn't vote because they didn't like the candidates or the issues.

For more than 60 percent of nonvoters, in other words, the election wasn't a priority.

And that's fine.

Every citizen has the right to vote, but no citizen is obliged to. That isn't just a truism. As with every other fundamental civic liberty, the freedom to vote incorporates the freedom not to vote.

By guaranteeing your right to attend a church, to own a weapon, or to march in a protest, the Constitution simultaneously guarantees your right not to do those things — even if do-gooders, busybodies, or community organizers insist that you should.

With Election Day just eight weeks away, we can expect to hear a drumbeat of reminders that it's our "civic duty" to vote. As in electoral seasons past, celebrities will make perky videos to coax young people into showing up at the polls.

Civil rights activists will remind the apathetic that Americans once died for the right to vote. Earnest pundits will write columns listing the seven reasons why everyone should vote. Or is it 10 reasons? Or 50?

Feel free to ignore them.

Please don't get me wrong: I'm a lifelong voter. No one has to persuade me to show up on Election Day to cast a ballot. I like the communal spirit of voting; years after marking my first ballot, I'm still moved by the civic ritual of coming together as equals, peacefully engaged in self-government.

I once wrote that I experience voting as an act of faith — faith that government of, by, and for the people still has real meaning, notwithstanding the inescapable sleaze and grubbiness of politics in a democracy.

Then again, I also keep up with current events, and have an ongoing interest in government and public policy. I don't show up on Election Day because I believe that voting for anyone is better than not voting at all. I show up because I've thought about whom I want to vote for (or against), and hope, through my ballot, to effect a good outcome.

But not everyone cares about politics and policy. And those who don't should feel no pressure to vote just for the sake of voting.

When your car needs fixing, you want someone knowledgeable about auto mechanics to diagnose the problem; when a weighty medical decision has to be made, you probably wouldn't turn to inexperienced laymen to make it.

The crafting of government policy — of tax law and defense budgets and judicial nominations and trade regulations — is at least as serious an endeavor as surgery and car repair. Many people, for wholly legitimate and understandable reasons, give no thought to governmental affairs. Fine, but why hector them to vote? If anything, they should be reassured that it's OK if they don't vote.

"In an ideal democracy," Yale law professor Stephen Carter remarks, "voting isn't a measure of participation at all — it's the outcome of participation." In other words, voting is meaningful when it represents the culmination of a citizen's engagement in the political process.

Under our system, citizens who choose not to engage in the process — who pay little or no attention to election campaigns — have the same right to vote as anyone else. But a moral or civic duty to do so? Absolutely not.

(Besides, refusing to vote can also be an affirmative political choice. When candidates are odious, when their campaigns traffic in character-assassination, when election ads are no more than shameless pandering, declining to pull the lever for any of them might well be the response of an engaged and rational voter.)

This is not a liberal v. conservative issue. In his latest book, Writings on the Wall, NBA-superstar-turned-social-critic Kareem Abdul-Jabbar looks at America's dented political process and considers ways to repair it.

People shouldn't be pressured to vote, writes Kareem
Abdul-Jabbar in his new book. Doing so merely
dilutes the democratic process.
One recommendation: "Stop encouraging people who don't want to vote to vote." Low voter turnout, Abdul-Jabbar writes, is "not necessarily a bad thing" if it reflects the nonparticipation of Americans who tune politics out. He doesn't sugar-coat the point: "Voters who don't want to cast a ballot because they're too lazy or uninformed should stay home. . . . When we pressure people to vote, we're diluting the democratic process, by bringing out those who are easily manipulated."

There is nothing wrong with not caring about politics, or with having better things to do than vote. There is something wrong with turning the franchise into a fetish.

Voter turnout is not the acid test of democratic health, and nothing is improved when we go to extremes to coax nonvoters to the polls. "Some of these people really shouldn't vote," says Abdul-Jabbar. "People that are voting in the blind are doing a disservice to our country."

On Election Day, staying away from the polls is also a legitimate option. For millions of Americans, it's the best one.

Judge smacks down Mosby in Baltimore

From the web files of Colonel Allen B. West

Once again, Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby seems to be having difficulty grasping fundamentals of the practice of law.

Andrew Branca for Legal Insurrection Reports:

Indeed, she’s now reduced to making exactly the same errors she only recently accused opposing counsel of making.

In this most current instance, Mosby’s motion for a gag order on the Freddie Gray case has been rejected, reports the Baltimore Sun (h/t Conservative Treehouse).

The reason? She filed her motion in Circuit Court on May 14, but while the matter was still jurisdictionally in the lower District Court. The matter was not moved into Circuit Court until May 21, a week later.

Ironically, in Mosby’s motion opposing defense counsel’s efforts to have her recuse herself from the case the Prosecutor argued that it was improper of the defense to make that argument in District Court, where the matter then rested, knowing as they did that the case would end up in District Circuit Court.

Curiously, a Mosby spokeswoman refuses to say whether the Prosecutor intends to re-file the motion in District Court, stating,”We’re not going to litigate this case in the media and discuss our trial strategy.”

Ferguson protesters paid $5000 for rioting

A PRonlineNews story reported at Newsmax.com

Paid Protesters Expected to Get Paid $1,250 Per Week from 'MORE'

At least some of the protesters who looted, rioted, burned buildings and overturned police cars in Ferguson, Missouri, last year were promised payment of up to $5,000 per month to join the protests.

However, when the Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE), the successor group to the now-bankrupt St. Louis branch of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), stiffed the protesters, they launched a sit-in protest at the headquarters of MORE and created a Twitter page to demand their money, the Washington Times reports.

Former U.S. Rep. Allen B. West noted on his website, "Instead of being thankful for getting off the unemployment line for a few weeks and having a little fun protesting, the paid rioters who tore up Ferguson, MO, are protesting again.

"First of all, can you even imagine getting paid $5,000.00 a month for running around holding a sign and burning down an occasional building? That's around $1,250.00 per week. Try making that at McDonald's or Starbucks."

The Kansas City Star estimates that the Ferguson riots, characterized as a spontaneous eruption of anger over the shooting of unarmed black criminal Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, cost the county $4.2 million.

Millennial Activists United (MAU) posted a letter on their website stating, "On May 14, 2015 many individuals and organizations of the protest movement that began in Ferguson, Missouri, organized a sit-in in the office of Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE). The demand was simple: Cut the checks. The protesters say they are unable to pay their bills after taking time to travel to Ferguson.

"Questions have been raised as to how the movement is to sustain when white non-profits are hoarding monies collected of off (sic) black bodies? When we will (sic) hold the industry of black suffering accountable? The people of the community are fed up and the accountability begins here and now," the letter continues.

"There is an insidious strand of racism and white supremacy that exists in this movement. This money is typically in the hands of white people who oversee the types of services that the non-profit provides, while having select token black people to spearhead the conversations within and to the community."

MORE is funded by liberal billionaire George Soros, the Times notes, through his Open Society Foundations (OSF).

The OSF, the Times states, paid for activists from various protest groups to travel to Ferguson and take part in the demonstrations.

Akiba Solomon of Colorlines stated, "More than 500 of us have traveled from Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, Portland, Tucson, Washington, D.C., Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and other cities to support the people of Ferguson and help turn a local moment into a national movement," the Times noted.

"There's absolutely no doubt that part of the reason that Ferguson flared up was because protesters were being paid to be there. That makes you wonder how many are being paid in Baltimore? How many more will be paid in the future?" The Right Scoop asked.

Protesters directed much of their anger against MORE director Jeff Ordower, former Missouri head of ACORN and ACORN's Midwest operations, FrontPage Mag reports.

"The unpaid rent-a-mob operatives complain that MORE stiffed them the same way ACORN did to hired protesters throughout its 40 years of radical left-wing rabble-rousing," FrontPage Mag reports.

Lynch follows the liberal formula in Baltimore

From the files of Jeff Crouere at Ringside Politics on WLAE-TV 32 in New Orleans, Louisiana

Visit Ringside Politics with Jeff Crouere
It was no surprise that new Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the Department of Justice will launch a civil rights investigation of the Baltimore Police Department. This is the second investigation that has been authorized in the wake of the riots that broke out following the death of Freddie Gray. The other investigation is looking into potential violations of Gray's civil rights.

The investigation will examine whether the police department engaged in excessive force or any other discriminatory policies. It follows Lynch’s visit to Baltimore earlier in the week in which she promised city leaders that she would do “all she could” to help the city heal.

Lynch's authorization is similar to what her predecessor, Eric Holder, did 20 times, including the investigations following civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. In her confirmation hearings, Lynch promised to continue the policies of Holder, so she is certainly following through on her promises.

The Justice Department investigations will likely show that Baltimore police officers committed civil rights violations. It is almost a foregone conclusion that a negative report will be issued because it will be necessary to satisfy civil rights leaders who have been highly critical of the Baltimore Police Department.

This announcement follows the official charges leveled against six police officers involved in the Freddie Gray case. Despite the hoopla, none of these investigations will solve the problems of Baltimore, a city that has been led by liberal Democrats for five decades. Since the 1960's, Baltimore has been beset by issues that plague other inner city communities.

The Great Society programs that were instituted to solve longstanding urban poverty have failed. Over trillions of dollars have been spent, but the problems of blight, drugs, and crime, poverty as well as race relations remain.

The answer from the Obama administration is always more spending and more government. Yet, the root causes of Baltimore’s problems will not be addressed by President Obama, Attorney General Lynch or any other administration official.

Instead of solving underlying issues, the Baltimore Police Department will be sacrificed amid charges of racism. Sadly, when the Justice Department gets involved, the results are usually not positive. New Orleans is an example of a police department that has suffered after enhanced federal government involvement.

After the Justice Department began investigating the New Orleans Police Department and a consent decree was signed, the results have been striking. In the last five years, the NOPD has lost almost 600 police officers. A police department of 1600 officers in 2010 has declined to one that is barely over 1,000 officers today. Baltimore will likely suffer a similar result.

Instead of a federal investigation into the Baltimore Police Department, the city's Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, should be investigated. She promised to give the protesters “space to destroy” and allegedly gave police the orders to “stand down” because the rioters were only targeting property. As a result, scores of buildings and automobiles were destroyed, and even though law enforcement officials were in full retreat, 100 police officers were attacked and some were seriously injured.

The Mayor’s ineptitude and mismanagement created a much more severe crisis in Baltimore. Although her actions need to be probed, she will likely get a pass.

While the focus is on a supposedly racist police department and more lectures about police racism, there has been limited action regarding the hundreds of rioters who brought a city to its knees. These criminals need to be held accountable for their violent behavior.

As the Justice Department investigates police misconduct in Baltimore, root causes of criminal activity are being ignored. It shows, once again, the agenda of the Obama administration is not to solve the real problems afflicting urban America.

Union calls for Baltimore Chief's resignation

Police chief must resign from the files of Jim Kouri at the Examiner

The Freddie Gray death on April 19 while in Baltimore Police Department custody set off nights of violent and devastating protests by black residents who were arguably stoked up by members of the news media and the usual agitators.

While the police officers and Republican governor of Maryland were severely criticized for their handling of the civil unrest, Baltimore's Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts and Deputy Police Commissioner Garnell Green, who are all African Americans were portrayed as being reasonable for their actions which included telling police officers to "stand down" and failing to call the governor to deploy the National Guard.

In addition, Al Sharpton traveled to Baltimore and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wholeheartedly welcomed him. Sharpton met with the Mayor along with his group's Baltimore chapter and local clergy at City Hall. And Al Sharpton ran the show during a press conference at the Baltimore City Hall.

On Sunday, during an exclusive interview with Emmy Award-winning newswoman Rita Cosby on New York's WABC Radio, Ed Mullins, President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, one of the nation's largest and most influential police unions urged both the mayor and police chief in Baltimore to resign.

"There [were] some very strong quotes... and he's the first to call for [Baltimore's police] chief to also resign! He also compared NYC and Baltimore and said why NYC was able to control things and Baltimore didn't. He said because in NYC police stood up to the mayor," Ms. Cosby told the Law Enforcement Examiner.

One of the first questions posed by host Rita Cosby to Sgt. Mullins -- who's served as the SBA president since 2002 -- was if her guest saw any differences between how the Baltimore police responded to rioting and looting, and how the New York City Police Department handles such civil unrest.

"[T]here’s a phenomenal difference. [W]hen we had the protest we have thousands and thousands of police officers and if you think of what took place during 9/11 [terrorist attack on the World Trade Center], we were still able to protect the city and respond to the disaster of 9/11.

The Baltimore Police Department has about 3000 police officers, and [Baltimore's mayor] had a Standby Policy that was in place to prevent Baltimore from engaging in any of the violence. In New York we did see violence. We saw police officers being assaulted. We saw different things, of some bottle throwing and people disrupting traffic things along those lines," Mullins told Cosby.

"But to see buildings being burned down, and stores being looted, and hard-working people being put out of business because this was an opportunity for, you know, a group of people to steal and benefit, and if you look at what they were stealing, they were stealing bags of chips, whiskey, and silly, silly items.

It wasn’t like they were robbing banks. They were stealing food. They were stealing nonsense items, and breaking people’s windows, and putting them out of business," said Sgt. Mullins.

"My heart goes out the Baltimore Police officers because they were forced to be in a situation, which they had no control of and the mayor herself should step down," Mullins noted.

"There’s a huge difference between what we're capable of doing here in New York, and the resources we have, as compared to the resources of what was [available] in Baltimore. I don't blame the police officers by any means, but I certainly blame the Police Chief and the Mayor. The people who live there should hold them all accountable," Mullins said to Cosby and her listeners.

Marilyn Mosby - A Baltimore Idiot

Baltimore State’s Attorney, Marilyn Mosby,Charged Wrong People - Wrong Names - Wrong Addresses of Two Officers

The Baltimore Sun reported on the mistake.

When charges were announced Friday against Alicia White for the death of Freddie Gray, Marilyn Mosby's phone started buzzing from journalists and bail bondsmen.

The problem was, they were calling the wrong Alicia White. The elementary school cafeteria manager from East Baltimore was not the Baltimore Police sergeant charged with manslaughter in the high-profile police custody death – even though court records listed her.

The middle initial was off. Her address, her height, her weight, her driver’s license number – all of the information was my client’s information,” said Jeremy Eldridge, an attorney who says he has been hired by the resident.

“Her life has been a living hell the past four days,” he said.

An attorney for Lt. Brian Rice said his client’s information was also entered incorrectly when prosecutors filed charges, but declined further comment.

On Friday evening, Tammy and Brian Rice of Brunswick, Md. said they were receiving multiple calls from reporters looking for the lieutenant. Brian Rice of Brunswick is a plumber, they said.

The Baltimore Sheriff’s Office, which assisted the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office in charging the officers, declined to comment and referred questions to prosecutors, who could not immediately be reached.

Hey Baltimore - Ya'll being played

From the personal files of an unhyphenated American, Lloyd Marcus

Dear Family and Friends:

Though you have not confronted me or organized an intervention, I know many of you do not understand why I dislike Obama, vote Republican and joined the Tea Party. Y'all think, Obama is black, we're black – so, what is my problem?

Dad told me that grandmother, 101 years old when she passed, cried when Obama was elected. I get that and totally understand. Still, I could not go brain-dead and hop on the elect-the-first-black-president bandwagon. As a matter of fact, I was stunned by how alone I was in considering who Obama was as a candidate and what he planned to do if elected.

Democrats and the media sold Obama as America's Great Black Hope. They protected him by hiding Obama's anti-American friends and writings. I learned that Obama is another standard “liberal” Democrat con artist, only more extreme; sure to continue the Democrats screwing of black folks.

For those unfamiliar with political terms, in a nutshell, “liberals” are those who believe that man can perfect himself and is capable of controlling everything. Ninety-nine percent of the time, liberals reject God's laws and question His existence. “Conservatives” tend to be God fearing (reverencing) folks. I'm a conservative Republican.

Liberal Democrats have played blacks for over 50 years. Obama is simply their latest front man, brilliantly covered in a black skin disguise.

Now, before you go off on me, calling me an Uncle Tom and worse, hear me out.

The recent Baltimore riots perfectly illustrate my point. Rioters expressed anger over high black unemployment, poor schools and poverty. Well guess who has controlled Maryland politics for the past 50 years? Liberal Democrats. And yet, they still keep playin' blacks with their standard lie – vote for us and we'll fix everything with our programs and block racist Republicans from keepin' y'all down and lynching you.

Meanwhile, there hasn't been one Republican in sight in Maryland for 50 years in a position to affect anything. And yet, all the problems liberal Democrats promised to fix have gotten worse. Y'all been played. Also, how long will y'all fall for their lie that the lack of jobs is Bush's fault? Obama has been president for six years.

Y'all bein' played!

Aunt Bummie and four of her five sons were on welfare their entire lives. Theirs was a fatherless household. Only Poochie (Lawrence) her eldest remarkably worked his way through college. Aunt Bummie and four of her sons died early.

Sleeping over from time to time, at 9 or 10 years old, I felt the depressed vibe of their household and knew their lives were tragic. I felt sorry for them. I felt their envy of my dad living with us.

When President Reagan tried to wean folks off of total government dependency, Democrats and their media buddies told blacks that Reagan was a racist mean old white man who hated blacks. That was another lie.

Don't get me wrong, a government safety net is fine. But, addicting people to cradle to grave welfare is evil; robbing folks of pursuing their God given gifts and potential. Liberal Democrats hope to get as many folks as possible hating the rich and hooked on welfare to keep the masses voting Democrat.

A friend ranted about mean Republicans in congress cutting food stamps for the poor. Another Democrat lie. After six years of Obama, more folks than ever are receiving food stamps (over 47 million).

Remarkably, a third of the country is out of work. Many quit looking for jobs, deciding to ride Obama's government gravy train. Come election day, they will vote Democrat. And guess who is hardest hit by Obama's job killing policies? Black folks.

Here's another Democrat scam. Democrats love to rant about evil Republican “draconian” cuts to welfare programs. Well, the truth is no program ever gets less money than it did the previous year. In Washington, a cut means congress will not give a program as much of an “increase” as first projected.

Despite Democrat control for 50 years and government programs out the ying yang, Baltimore blacks are suffering more than ever; high school dropouts, no jobs, still murdering each other, high out-of-wedlock births, poverty, high incarcerations and fatherless households. Even after spending trillions of taxpayer dollars fighting poverty since 1965, Democrats tell the poor and blacks they're gettin' screwed by rich white folks.

They're playin' y'all.

Obama's response to the Baltimore riots is typically liberal Democrat; more government programs and blaming Republicans.

Some of you will view Obama as your homey no matter what. It's a black thing. I get it. But, Obama does not feel the same about you. If he did, Obama would not be flooding the country with uneducated poor illegals who suck up your welfare and your jobs. He only cares about creating new Democrat voters.

He's playin' y'all.

Meanwhile, y'all say, what is up with Peanut (my childhood nickname)? He just “don't” get it.

I pray that I have opened your eyes and that you will think twice before voting for another Democrat.

Love, Lloyd (Jr.)

A pox on Baltimore

From the Warning Signs of Alan Caruba at Facts-not-Fantasy

Know Caruba's Warning Signs
If there was anything else happening in the world, you would not know it because it was 24/7 - Baltimore, Baltimore, Baltimore.

Specifically, it was about the arrest and death of Freddie Gray, a known drug dealer and user with an extensive rap sheet.

There are different descriptions of the manner of his death, but the details of the autopsy are still obscure beyond a reference to having received a blow to his spine. This is attributed to having been placed in the police van, shackled hand and foot, but not having a safety belt applied.

The response from a certain element of Baltimoreans was to begin to loot, vandalize and set fire to their own neighborhoods by way of protesting alleged police brutality. This followed his funeral on Monday. The Mayor’s response was to tell the police to stand down and let the protesters have their way. When that predictably did not work, the National Guard was called in and a curfew imposed.

Capping these events was the indictment of the six arresting officers by the State’s Attorney General, Marilyn Mosby that included charges of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. That seemed to appease the mob that passes for Baltimore’s citizens.

I wish I could say I have sympathy for Freddie Gray and his family, but I don’t. I wish I could say that I feel sorry that Baltimore has been a state of decline and decay since the last riots in 1968, but no one asks why the trillions of dollars poured in comparable cities since the days of Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty” hasn’t demonstrated any results.

I wish I could say that the connecting factor between Baltimore, Detroit, and other Democrat-controlled cities was the primary reason that their citizens suffer unemployment, why their children attend schools that fail to teach them even fundamental skills, but what has evolved in these distressed cities is a culture that does not emphasize the traditional family, demand better education, and replaces the work ethic with the “entitlement” check. The Baltimore mother who chastised her son to keep him from participating in the riot is single and has five other children.

These cities are daily crime scenes. The riot was a crime scene.

And who is accused of Freddie Gray’s death? Members of the Baltimore Police Force who initially spotted Gray, a 25 year old with a criminal record, and went to investigate what they had observed. He ran. They ran after him. That’s what we want and expect our police to do.

The indictment, a purely political act intended to quell the angry mood of those Baltimoreans who protested by committing crimes, is an attack on every police officer in America. Most are good men and women, but like any other profession, there are some bad ones. The legion of police who protect us do not go around murdering suspects indiscriminately.

Tell that to State Attorney Mosby. Then consider that Freddie Gray’s attorney, William H. Murphy, Jr. donated $5,000 to her campaign. Consider that her husband, Nick Mosby, is a Baltimore city councilman with lots of reason to see the riots quelled.

What these cities and the decades reaching back to the 1960s all represent is a vocal resentment of police authority. Back then they were called “pigs.” America has been drifting away from the traditional respect and regard we have had for our police.

The problem isn’t the police.

It’s liberal notion that raising taxes and heavily regulating businesses large and small will somehow attract them to our cities. It doesn’t work that way. Our cities have become great dumping grounds for people who interest the Democratic Party only around election time.

And that is a problem for the police. It will be a growing problem for everyone if we cannot return to a decent respect for our police.

So, for now, a pox on Baltimore and on all the politicians from the President on down who keep telling us the police are the problem, not the world of Freddie Gray’s roaming our city’s streets.

Marines prep for riot control in the U.S.

From the files of Gary Franchi at the Next News Network

An Operational Readiness Exercise conducted at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown Virginia according to Gay Franchi at the Next News Network. Marines are training for riot control.

Per the usual the exercise was given the cover story of overseas preparation. Sgt. Andrew S. Wilbur, a non-lethal weapons instructor said of a similar exercise “Consider they are hypothetically operating within an EMBASSY."

However, As we've been following for weeks, public concerns are running high amidst the recent Ft. Lauderdale FEMA Camp Roundup drills, and the Ontario California martial law train.

Participants in This latest training exercise were the Bravo Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company.

Oddly the high production footage you're seeing right now is directly from the Department of Defense. As a professional news package intended for the public to see.

This has a twofold effect. First. The Marines are training for riot and crowd control on American soil where tea partiers and Constitutionalists are constantly demonized by politicians and the media. In the event of civil unrest these same Marines could deploy this training upon Americans.

Second. The media production aspect of this is chilling because it shows they are doing this in full public view. They want this to be seen. Because they want the public to accept Marines not police conducting riot control during the coming martial law and societal breakdown.

While training is a common part of military life these tactics a suspect in context of other reports we've done here at the next News Network. Please review our previous reports to gain the full perspective.

And most importantly. Please be prepared for the unknown days that lie ahead.
