Thomas Jefferson's favorite Greek Philosopher

Thomas Jefferson's favorite Greek Philosopher: Epicurus from the files of Ken LaRive at the Examiner

Several days ago I was surfing Face Book for something of pertinent interest, and found a simple question poised on a very popular site. I found a hundred comments from about twelve people who considered it with much passion. 'Should Cursive be taught in school?”

Light of Truth
I read each comment carefully, and all of them were emphatic, that yes, Cursive should be taught.

But I noticed an underlining presumption there, and so, proposed something none seemed to have considered.

“Who, cares.” I said. “Why do we need a government curriculum to mandate the need to learn cursive? If you want to learn cursive, it is quite simple. Learn it. Open a book, take the time to practice it, and that skill now belongs to you. You don't have to ask anyone for that.”

Jefferson's Founding Principles

One has to wonder how our founding fathers could come up with such a profound idea of Liberty, a country controlled by a “we the people,” a republic based on law, with a Constitution and Bill of Rights set in place to protect us from tyranny. Surely, they argued... and yet they came together for something they considered far bigger than their individual faiths, their suppositions and speculations based on their own specific world views, but all of it, in a nutshell, I propose here, came from a specific form of education.

An education whose motivation comes from the joy of learning, and not by some powerful mandate of collectivism, a propagandized mindset, and a designed test to justify it.

A book was expensive in 1776, and rare for the common man, and if you wanted to read one most likely it was borrowed from a friend, or found in a rudimentary library. They would sit outside where there was light, in the cool shade of a tree perhaps, and read. It was long before government mandates on education, before cybercafe lies, and if you wanted to study after dark, one lit a candle.

What was proposed in those early writings, was the formulation of a mindset, a specific and all-encompassing mindset based on philosophy... and so, when Jefferson wrote that his favorite Greek Philosopher was Epicurus, I wanted to know more. I didn't need to ask Big Brother permission to study this. It was my idea, and my volition.

Epicurus the Sage

Just as our founders were men of their times, fleeing the oppression of Church-State European governments, and banker consortiums vying to be the last central bank standing, so too was Epicurus a man of his times...

The Trojan and Persian Wars still clanged in the minds of men, and fickle and sometimes horny Gods of War permeated the Athens mindset, the capital head of what was called the Delian League. This unity was born of conquest and war, trade and inspiration, and was an association of what was considered equal city-states that had joined together for mutual protection. Its treasury was kept on the rocky isle of Delos, protected behind walls and in deep vaults, guarded my military men. Sound a bit familiar?

But it was dangerous times, and out of fear, the treasury was moved to the Athenian Acropolis for safekeeping, and as these so called city states now contributed directly to Athens, an empire was born.

It grew, and with it schools of science, engineering, math and many educational institutions of art. And in the middle of what was called “Athens, the queen of Greece” the light of philosophy grew. And what was studied and learned there, has made its way into every hollowed hall of learning around the world.

There, in the cool of evening, as the shadows of gardens fell on marble columns and dazzling pools of Maxfield Parish blue, men in togas taught methods of thinking, methods that are so profound, its fundamental premise is now our standard.

Oh, to have a time machine. The grandfatherly Socrates who spoke to a paying audience of students about the justifications of philosopher Kings, where fascist dictators were chiseled from the flesh of tyranny by a surprised teacher who wanted to find truth.

Aristotle was there, speaking under a multicolored awning about a concept he had learned called common sense. In his attempt to but order in what he saw to be a chaotic world, he classified, categorized, grouped and sorted, and though some current teachers poke fun at the fact that he put alligators and trees in the same class because they were green, surely his way of thinking was far more complex, and misunderstood.

Ah, Plato. He talked about what some have come to think a metaphor, that everything that is real is found in a cave, and yet, his questions into what we now consider to be reality lingers in the offshoots of religious dogma, the psychology and psych of the human mind from conscience thought to the assimilation of learning.

From his musings, the idea of a motivational attitude that can be both a curse and a blessing bent the minds of his listeners.... And this was a cornerstone of our founding father's education... and though they read the Bible, most knew that to come together for a common cause, those differences must be put aside. And so, they called themselves Deists.

They also studied a mostly obscure philosopher, a humble man with a social philosophy so tolerant, his primary students were women... I give you Epicurus: “I have always wanted to be a philosopher, from my earliest days. I love the quiet contemplation of my own mind. Does that sound vain? Dear me, I hope not immoderately so.

For I also love moderation above all else. One could say that virtue of faith or love is supreme in the universe, but each of these, when taken to the extremes, become perverse, and stability is lost, and that leads to madness.”

Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who lived from 341 BC to 270 BC. He is primarily known for the creation of a philosophical commune called the Garden in Athens. It was there, after years of trying, that he and his followers contemplated and lived their philosophy, and to this very day there is a sign on the gate that reads: ‘Stranger, here you will do well to tarry. Here our highest good is pleasure’.

Yes, the Epicureans were hedonists. Found between the folds of Amen Ra, Zoroastrianism, and the veritable flood of philosophical ideas in a world thought to be in control of a selfish, vengeful, all powerful hen-pecked Zeus.

They believed we shouldn’t try and follow the ‘will of God,’ as the Stoics professed, because, among other things, that divine will is not understood. Men put words in the mouths of Gods for their own power and control.... And it is our goal, each of us, in what might otherwise be considered a cold and cruel world where Gods seem indifferent to our welfare... That we are responsible to find a bit of happiness and joy, with a true reason for being to focus on the many pleasure we may find here on Earth, before we die. That is where truth lies, and the ultimate nature of men who seek it.

Atheists?

In his teachings, Epicurus believed that gods existed, but that they show little or no interest in the affairs of men, accept, perhaps, when men are used to fulfill their own godly happiness, mostly selfish in nature. Divine providence, as newly created philosophies taught, became institutionalized into a multitude of religions, but Epicurean taught what is called the atomistic view of the cosmos...

He saw the universe to be a mass of swirling atoms, drifting chaotically, ‘riddled with nothingness.’ And it was up to each of us to assign not only meaning, but aspire to the acquisition of the ultimate fulfillment, pleasure in its many aspects. Pleasure, and the lack of pain...

Lucretius, a Epicurean poet, eloquently suggested that we are lucky to have a few atoms who swerve by our control, as with them we are able to acquire free will and consciousness. We can craft the lives we want, for the good and bad and right and wrong, and create happy lives, by our attitudes. And when we die, our consciousness stops, and these so called atoms will dissipate into the great celestial stew.

Many future followers of Epicurus were atheists, because in the atomic universe of Epicurus the supreme power and influence of Gods over men were downplayed, with the remainder of the philosophy still intact.

Without a universal law, divine providence, or absolute cosmic jurisprudence, it is all up to us, as responsible individuals, to choose the kind of life we want to have and live, and seek the values that will empower it. He talked about human nature, and how some choices are not reasoned, but that we should attempt to pursue a life of pleasure over pain as much as possible, with our choices reflecting intelligence and rationality.

The veritable core of Epicurean Philosophy, as I see it, is like other Socratic traditions, where it is found that the cause of much of our human sufferings to be the acceptance of false, or flawed beliefs. Primarily, we accept as fact that what we have been taught to think, will ultimately and necessarily produce happiness. Found inside of our minds and hearts, by improper teachers and flawed principles, false notions have propagated, like status, power, lust, gluttony, sloth, luxury and such.

We have been instilled with the thought that the acquiescence of these ideas and tangible assets are somehow tied to happiness... but it is evident by looking around that this can not possibly be true.... Epicurus teachings indicated that these external goods and the pursuit of them can bring us much misery, a life of dullness and pain, and ultimate insanity.

Before choosing a direction, said Epicurus, weigh and consider what pleasure you may acquire with the possibility of pain. It was a rudimentary form of individual responsibility he was referring to, as indicated in an illustrated explanation of the pleasures of drinking wine. One has to consider the pain of a hangover, sick bodies and damaged relationships... he taught... and so, we must try to restrict some desires, immediate gratification, for what might be more easily attained.

This singular element of Epicurean Philosophy gave his followers austere lives, following a simple way of living, fundamental, moral and ethical, with a simple diet and few possessions, but in control of their own destiny, and considered free men, free thinkers...

Overview

If your choices reflect a simple, uncomplicated life, you will be free of many of the aggravations that plague us all. Working to support a lifestyle, for instance, enslaves one to support it. When we sacrifice our lives with a boring, stressful, uninspired job to support some future possibility of happiness, the here and now is forfeit without any form of guarantee.

Contemporary teachers of this philosophy, as taught in my philosophy department, at times proposed that Epicureans were libertines, and I have challenged this idea...It seems that if left to pursue their lives, under a banner of liberty, like our American Constitution for instance, they would choose to live each precious moment given, without much thought for tomorrow, a tomorrow of uncertainty.

And yet, what perfect patriot is the man who finds himself enslaved? The pain of slavery, to the Epicurean, would not be tolerated, and so yes, they might make a perfect Libertarian. .

Surly, Mr. Jefferson must have been drawn to Epicurus for an emphatic reason, and what I would give for an afternoon of questions on his porch in Monticello. I speculate that he was not drawn to it for its “slacker” nature, as some have suggested the Epicurean nature to be, but one who assigns value to ideals like love, passion, friendship, honor, and a way to free yourself from the bonds of negative emotions, by prioritizing your life.

Note: Special thanks to William Messner-Loebs and Sam Keith who explained it to me so eloquently. And please stay tuned for another noteworthy Philosopher, Marcus Aurelius

Gold Paper and our enslavement from war

Gold Paper and Our Enslavement in a Perpetual War from the files of Ken LaRive at the Examiner

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants” ~ Thomas Jefferson

America's Last Stand
“Know thy enemy.” was written in The Art of War, and “If you know yourenemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles... if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.”

With this in mind I give you your true enemy. An enemy who works steadfast and unrelenting inside the folds of our country, and outside the boundary called rule of law. We see their work in the light of day... that which was scientifically prepared and carefully presented in increments for us to digest with deceit... in the dead of night.

Their power is so formidable, their intelligence and insight so pronounced, they can appear as our very best partner, while undermining the very structure and fabric that identifies all future paths for our nation, by lies and deceit. I give to you, The Federal Reserve System. - Ken LaRive, 1999.

101 Years of Slavery

Long ago... so long ago it now seems more of a myth, there was a country called The United States of America. It was a land of vast resources, a land of opportunity, a land of Liberty, and a land of dreams. People from all over the world came here, oppressed and enslaved by totalitarian church states, and some so poor they worked as indentured servants for seven years, just to get the price of passage...

All that changed just 101 years ago. And though many dates are important to us as a nation, with some living on in infamy, no other has more profound implication to our nation than the date,December 23, 1913.

Until that date, we had a country whose Congressional Statesmen, most overwhelmingly, adhered to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. And though there were men in the folds of our nation who wanted to change us fundamentally, even to help international entries gain control of us from the inside, our constitution was still virtually intact, as laid out by our founders. But since that time, for all intent and purpose, both Liberty and our National Treasure has been stolen.

Of all of the stipulations of that mighty document, our Constitution, one element was thought to be primary to our amazing success, Article 1, Section 8, Paragraph 5. If you have not read the Constitution, you are doing yourself and your children a great disservice.

It is the variable key not only to unlocking your dreams, but a key to the very shackles you find yourself in today. Shackles, that you proudly polish by the threat of a gun... “Congress shall have power to coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures.”

Right after that is another very profound clause, found in the same section 8. It stipulates that Congress has the power to“punish counterfeiters.” So with a “Once Upon A Time” story, I'd like to explain to you just what happened...

A Traitorous Congress

A few men, men very similar to those who hold office of power on both sides of the aisle today, now called Neocons on the Right, and Progressives on the left, are virtually indistinguishable in their actions. They promote themselves to be different, but once in office will ignore the original platform they used to get elected... It seems that they are quickly briefed... and that the remainder of their tenure is somewhat scripted... and they become virtually indistinguishable...

Why? ...because both are bought and paid for by the same set of lobbyists... And most all, almost to the last man, have done everything for their specific scripted agendas, even at the expense of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, as the NDAA and Patriot Act will attest. But just as most Americans have not read the Constitution, so too have they not read these manifestos of slavery, and that includes one of the biggest scams in our history, Obama-care..

The Lost Letter and the Invisible Government

In a letter found in the personal effects of my long deceased father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Makezitch, from a man named W. B. Vennard Sr., National Chairman for Americans for America, (1968), there was an amazing historical revelation that stimulated me to learn more:
“A traitorous Congress, led principally bySenator Nelson Aldrich of New York, kin of the Rockefeller clan, and one Carter Glass, Senator from Virginia,unconstitutionally- (because this Act constituted an illegal amendment of the Constitution) -sneaked through Congress just two days before Christmas in 1913, when many in that body had gone home for the Holidays,(pushed through) The Federal Reserve Act.
The Federal Reserve Banks, a system owned and operated not by the United States Government, as many have been led to believe, but by a group of private Rothschild and affiliated bankers sent here from Europe for the express purpose of gaining control of this Nation's money system, just as they had done in every nation in Europe with the exception of Czarist Russia, up to that time, and involved that continent in war after war."
The Banking firm of Kuhn, Loeb Company, sent Paul Warburgto America from their office in Hamburg, Germany, to become the chief “engineer,” implementer, and spokesman for the newly proposed system, and voila, was appointed first Governor of the Federal Reserve Board. Yes, of course, there were those who emphatically opposed it on principle, and they fought this bill on the floor of Congress.

In the middle of the fray, that goes on as a small act of defiance to this very day, one voice stood out as a loyal Constitutionalists, Congressman Lindbergh of Minnesota. He said: “This Act establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President signs the Bill, the invisible Government by the Monetary Power will be legalized.

The people may not know it immediately, but the day of reckoning is only a few years removed... The people must make a declaration of independence to relieve themselves from the (this) monetary power... This they will be able to do by taking control of Congress, the division of Congress into political parties is a crime...” I had to read this several times...

Since that bill was signed into law by President Wilson, this nation has been sliding down a slippery slope- The involvement of two World Wars, and from that time a barrage of so called “police actions,” and the reality of today is a heading to what can only be described as a “One World Government.”

War is very profitable for the Military Industrial Complex, and there is no end in sight... Without a doubt, if we the people can not find the means to curb this domineering power, all will be lost. Well, read on, there is indeed a solution to be found...there is hope for us as a nation and society.

Today we are being primed for war, by fear and hatred, and there are no means for the average person to reason it out. Promoted by a media dominated and controlled by these mega-corporations, new enemies are being created and destroyed in a never-ending process, and with it our national debt is the virtual fulfillment of Lindbergh's prophecy.

He warned us, as so many others along the way tried to do with no avail, and today the Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air just to pay the interest on that debt... And since this is not taught in school, and the new American mindset is the never ending need for government involvement in every aspect of their lives, no declaration of independence seems evident at this time.

Still, a few are questioning why, for instance, that our borders are not secured, or how UN mandates are said to now trump what is left of our Constitution, and the answer is a simple one, though most disconcerting for a Libertarian.

You see, it is designed that way, without a doubt, as paying for a fence and security is not in the best interest for a power structure who wants to bring the entire world under their dominate control, a New World Order as it were, without borders. And, as they well know, American sovereignty will be abolished without border security, and combined with both debt slavery and the hidden tax of inflation, our destruction is secure.

Ask yourself.... why would an international conglomerate of bankers and industry care for what happens to America? We would, America, to the last man and penny, be absorbed into their collective, and this is happening right before our eyes.

“Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto.”

***Letter to Thomas Lomax (12 March 1799)

On July 1st, 1957, William McChesney Marten, then Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (FRS), was quoted in a testimony before the Senate Finance Investigating Committee: “The only right Government has is the right of repeal.”

Think for a moment just what this means. You see, it was just 12 years prior, on July 1st, 1944, “that the nation was placed under international control through our fiscal system by means of the Bretton Woods Agreement.

The plot was hatched in the woods by the international bankers which established the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank of Reconstruction and Development. The “Convertibility Clause” of Bretton Woods, tied all foreign currencies to the U.S. Dollar, which in turn allowed any member nation with U.S. Dollars to convert them to gold, thus bringing about the hemorrhaging of our gold in Fort Knox.”
(Note: No audit of Fort Knox has been available to the American Citizen for over fifty years. Our National Treasure has been squandered, and we are not allowed to know, who, when, where or how.)
In that traitorous acquisition, both the pound and the dollar has been devalued, and every time we have this devaluation, our future is culled and placed in a foreign bank, as is the same when money is printed out of thin air. When the Federal Reserve prints unsecured money, it is one more nail in our coffin, a burden designed to enslave us, and our future no longer belongs to us as we the people.

The Shadow Government

The International Monetary Plan in Prospective was published in February 1968 in what was called a monthly review of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. You had better sit down: “Recent developments in international finance, highlighted by the devaluation of the British pound and speculative activity in the London gold market, have created considerable interest in the future viability of the international monetary system. Policy-makers, of course, have been vitally interested in this issue for a number of years.

The most notable accomplishment, however, has been directed toward the problem of assuring an adequate long-run supply of international reserves. This accomplishment occurred at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund, (IMF) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in September 1967, when a resolution was unanimously adopted to proceed with a plan to establish, within the fund, machinery for the creation of a new international reserve facility.” Yes, a new international Federal Reserve System - (W.B.V. Sr.)

Discussions were rifle at the time, and there were many thoughts published on this matter in that year, 1968, the year I was drafted to Vietnam. One blaring accusation by Congressman Wright Patman, who was then chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee, during a Joint Economic Committee of Congress, stated that William McChesny Martin was, “guilty of malfeasance and nonfeasance in office.”

And on February of that year the Los Angeles Times quoted William McChesney Marten to have stated: “An increase in the price of gold, in effect a devaluation of the dollar, is nether necessary or desirable as a solution to the nation's gold outflow and imbalance of payment problems... we're overextended and over committed and we're trying to do too much too fast... perpetual defects are the road to the undermining of any currency... the United States is on a wartime economy and has to pay for the war.”

Yes, a wartime economy that has continued to this day. And since Bretton Woods it is insured to continue unabated and perpetually, as without it the ceiling would fall in... and that is why they want to continually lift the debt ceiling, unless, of course, spending is curbed... but there is too much profit to be made for the war machine, international banks and international corporations, with men holding duel citizenship in our very congress pulling the strings. War is a racket, and America is being systematically dismantled...

Paper Gold... (Perhaps a straight shot of Tequila Gold may be in order to finish this essay.) Before continuing to the overt punchline, let us recede a bit to the year 1763 when our ambassador, Benjamin Franklin was asked why the so called Colonies had been so prosperous. His statement rings true, even today “Because we issue our own money.” he said.

Soon after, the very next year in fact, England prohibited that practice and that was the primary cause of the Revolutionary War of 1775, and realize here that every war that has been “declared” in the history of this nation... has stemmed from this very cause.

So what I'm stating here, emphatically, is that banking cartels have tried to put their boots on our throats from the very first... In 1811, for instance, Congress voted to not renew the charter of the First Bank of the United States, and from that came the War of 1812. And why? Because International Bankers knew that “debt free” money, as printed according to our Constitution, is also called “honest money” and it could not be tapped by them.

They could not get a cut in our unprecedented prosperity otherwise! They knew that without control of our monetary system, and the amazing industry and people who came to our shores from all corners of the world could not be dominated... and because of this primary reason... The Civil War was precipitated.

Martin further stated:
“Rather than increase the price of gold as a solution to the payments imbalance, he called for active cooperation among nations of the world and the IMF in the creation of a much-discussed 'paper gold” (also referenced to the S.D. Rs-Special Drawing Rights and paper gold- W.B.Vsr.) drawing rights on the IMF as a supplement to international reserves... Reserves used by countries in international dealings now consist of gold, U.S. Dollars and and British pound sterling... Gold and the U.S. Dollars are the most prized universally, especially since the pound has devalued... As our deficit has mounted over the years, many foreigners holding dollars have asked for gold- still the ultimate in acceptability as international money.
Some countries have “cashed in,” fearing that the United States would raise the price of gold, therefor a devaluation of the dollar... and in effect repudiating some of its international debt.”
Wonder how China, Russia, Japan, and India might feel about this, and if history is any indication of future events, wouldn't that be the primary catalyst for war? In 1968, Louis B. Lundberg, chairman of the Bank of America, made a startling suggestion:
“The Federal Reserve Board's powers be vastly extended to include control over the entire U.S. credit industry, not just commercial banks. The Federal Reserve Bank, which is not part of the Government but is often sympathetic to government fiscal goals, now has controls beyond regulation of interest rates and reserve requirements of commercial banks. The Government's policy is fiscal irresponsibility and it presents a clear-cut danger to the world economy.
We cannot continue to run such sizable deficits in our balance of payments, at a time when our gold stock is being reduced, without seriously undermining world confidence in the dollar.”
When that was written the National Debt was $336 Billion, and the annual interest on that debt was 14 billion. At this time, ourdebt is 17.86 trillion, and there is no viable way to determine if that number is accurate, or in actuality, what we actually pay in interest, or even to whom. No complete audit of the the Federal Reserve has taken place as of yet, though this year we are told it will happen...

World War Three has Already Begun

We are being drawn into a world conflict, a World War three, for this very reason alone... for corporate and banking profit. We Americans are such good and trusting people... We think our cause is a noble one... that we are bringing something called democracy to the lands we destroy, from the outside in to the inside out, and in the process, make fortunes for those who finance it, from banks who fiance both sides to international corporations who make tools of war, and we pave the way for them with a debt that enslaves our very future, so big it can never be paid, at 55K for every man woman and child in this country.

It is a debt so big, and growing so fast, it is unsustainable... and when we foreclose on this debt, the American entitlement society and working men alike, will not be able to wrap their minds around just how bad it may become... and as we will kill each other for the scraps that are left, bankers, like carpetbagger vultures, will own us all, lock, stock, and barrel.

Let me say this again, for the sake of clarity... it could get so bad that most everyone left alive, after a month without lights, will beg government to quell the chaos by force... and the men who will rescue us, will not be the US Army, Navy, or Marine, but Solders of Fortune like Black-water, working with an international force called the UN.

Only then... will America find it in their hearts and minds to state a Declaration of Independence, and the blood of tyrants and patriots will be the fertilizer for a New America, born again in Liberty, or, more likely, I'm so sorry to say, be absorbed into a One World Order. You see, once a Liberty is lost, only blood will get it back, and very few care so long as a football game is on, especially if they have money on the game... Liberty is not realized by most, until it is lost...

If we can come together, if we can restore Article 1, Section 8, Paragraph 5, all un-Constitutional activities will wither and die. Yes, it is said that the root of all evil is man's love for money, and so if we can show that Liberty is profitable, that truth is profitable, that peace is profitable, and that our Constitution ties us to prosperity, America will again be a beacon of light for the entire world, just as we once were. God bless America, and the entire world as well.

"A great industrial nation is controlled by it's system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the world-- no longer a government of free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men." ~ President Woodrow Wilson

America's Education Battlefield

America's Education Battlefield from the Warning Signs of Alan Caruba at Facts-not-Fantasy

Know Caruba's Warning Signs
The 2010 introduction of Common Core, a set of requirements for what elementary and secondary school children should know in math and English language arts, has turned schools in one state after another into battlefields as its complexity and other factors led to protests against it.

Even so, by mid-2014, a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found that very nearly half of those asked about it hadn’t even heard of it. A number of states, such as Missouri, Indiana, Oklahoma, and South Carolina have withdrawn from it.

Schools today are often under fire for one reason or another. Ever since the 1960s when teachers unions began to secure more and more control, formerly the responsibility of individual and state school boards, Americans have been engaged in efforts to improve the elementary and secondary education systems.

Many have elected to home school their children. Others have pushed for school choice to permit their children to attend a school that was clearly doing a better job than the one to which their children were assigned.

As youngsters settle into their classes, there are a number of trends worth noting.

Perhaps one of the most interesting trends is the expansion of online classes into K-12. As Ashley Bateman noted in a recent issue of School Reform News, “In 2013 ten million students of all ages participated in more than 1,200 massive, open, online courses offered by more than 200 universities.”

Of value to self-motivated students in particular, online classes are sure to find a larger audience of students who have grown up in the virtual world of game playing.

Another trend was noted by Marcy C. Tillotson, an education reporter for Watchdog.org. It is the increasing demand for more and more data about each student who worry that things done at a very young age like a schoolyard fight or emotional problems will follow them into college when they have long outgrown the problems or behaviors of childhood.

Parents want to know what data is being collected and who has access to it. As often as not, they cannot find out.

Increasingly, school choice, a parent’s right to enroll their child in a selected public school, a private or a parochial choice, has become an issue that makes it into state legislature’s where some support and some forbid it. In Louisiana and Texas, for example, school choice programs and scholarship credits have gained support as a political issue.

In Florida, the teachers union has initiated a lawsuit “to eliminate school choice for many low-income students and effectively kill a program to help students with autism and other special needs.” In North Carolina, its Supreme Court rendered a decision that permits more than 2,000 low-income parents to send their children to schools of their choice.

Attention to the quality of teachers, as opposed to letting tenure keep poorly performing ones in the classroom, is a growing trend. Last year in California, a first of its kind teacher quality lawsuit was decided in favor of the education reforms that brought it, striking down tenure and a similar lawsuit has been announced for New York.

As Ms. Tillitson reported, “Vergara v. California struck down state laws that required teacher layoffs based solely on seniority with no regard to teacher effectiveness, gave teachers permanent status after two years on the job, and made it difficult for school administrators to dismiss ineffective teachers.” As this trend expands to other states, a major complaint regarding poor performance will be addressed.

At the heart of the issue of teacher quality are the programs that prepare them to teach. As Ms. Tillotson noted, “A week after a California judge ruled on a case involving teacher tenure, dismissals and layoffs, the National Council for Teacher Quality released its annual report on another fundamental problem, the poor quality of teacher preparation programs.

The report found that, as a whole, the programs need improvement. “Only a quarter of the programs expect aspiring teachers to be in the top half of their college’s academic pool. On a 125-point scale, the NCTQ ranked most programs as earning fewer than 50 points.

Increasingly, the quality and content of various educational programs are being questioned and challenged. One example is the College Board’s Advanced Placement U.S. History Framework (APUSH) and the questions about who wrote the curriculum that is taught to 500,000 students in more than 8,000 high schools every year.

When Larry Krieger, a retired College Board-praised teacher and Jane Robbins, a senior fellow at The American Principles Project asked the College Board who was the author or authors of the program, all they got as a reference to a web page listing 19 college professors and teachers who served on two College Board committees but where not listed as authors, but as “Acknowledgements.”

Kreiger and Robbins call the history program “biased, poorly written, and ineptly organized”; one that “has raised alarms from state and national leaders.” We keep hearing about the importance of “transparency” but apparently the College Board does not think it applies to them.

It has long been known that U.S. schools tend to perform more poorly than those in other nations. Joy Pullman, a research fellow of The Heartland Institute and managing editor of School Reform News reported that “According to two recently released studies, the schools middle-income families send their kids to are not as good as parents think.”

“A national study,” wrote Ms. Pullman, “found U.S. students whose parents have college degrees perform worse than peers from comparable families in other countries. In the United States, 43 percent of such children tested ‘proficient’ in math on an international test, compared to 71 percent of comparable students from Poland, 68 percent in Japan, and 64 percent in Germany.” Overall, U.S. students performed better than those in only six countries.

Not surprisingly, Ms. Bateman has reported that “Accepting federal mandates in exchange for funding is the crux of the problem” of ever-growing educational bureaucracies at the state level. “States report that 40 percent of the paperwork burden they deal with is to comply with federal regulations,” said Lindsey Burke, the Will Skillman Fellow in Education at The Heritage Foundation.

When one considers how much in tax revenue is collected for the purpose of educating our youth, one would hope for better results, but fortunately there are many individuals, parents, and organizations seeking to improve the quality of education and our schools are going to remain battlefields for many years to come.

A chaotic world: Like father like son

A chaotic world: Like father like son from the files of Ken LaRive at the Examiner

Read the LaRive Files
Mix together threatened political power structures, economic instability and default, cultural experiments gone haywire, then pepper them with un-reasoned fear, selfish and self-centered concerns for evil intent, further salted by mandated and instilled standards without a sound moral compass... one that justifies without reason, motivates by blind faith and trust, and then... finally stirred together by a great and powerful elitist spoon creating an amniotic and chaotic vortex for the profit of a black bottom line... and this, you will find, is our world in the year 2014, and our future if we allow it.

There are so many problems, giant problems, and they are found not only in the power structures in competition with other mega power structures, but cultural changes too... so emphatic and seemingly without empathy, it is putting into question fundamental strings that have held us together since civilization's organization.

We are asking questions of morality and ethics, liberty from tyranny, God and religion, men and machine, and the most powerful of all, slavery and self worth.

In the U.S., workers are raging against the welfare state, international corporate war for profit, debt enslavement, the destruction of civil liberty and the shredding of our Constitution, Socialism and the coming Progressive Liberal Communism, Government spying and the militarization of local police, the threats of gun confiscation and marshal law, anti-social lawlessness and violence, an open border invitation to illegals from around the world with the promise of free services and the destruction of our sovereignty, and a president who laughs while teeing off. But this is a short list. The actual list is a mile long...

Around the world, and for many various reasons, people are incensed and outraged, and dying in the streets in protest. As Gaza shoots off fireworks and throws rocks in protest, Hamas, who Israel actually created and armed, has turned into a terrorist group, and for each one of them bombed into oblivion, about fifty innocent people are killed with them, and yet they do not give up.

Israel's Zionists Church/State government calls them collateral damage, and has told the world that they will do anything to stay in power, and their own terrorist organization called, The Mossad, are causing chaos all around the world, from infiltration into governments, to covert assassinations, to sabotage and torture.

Their influence is so powerful, their US lobby has to be consulted before any President can be hand-picked, as free elections are suspended, and they have intelligence so insightful, they not only knew beforehand that 9-11 was about to happen, but evidence suggests that it was their military expertise that actually brought down the twin towers and building 7 in free-fall.

It was an event that has never happened in the world before or since. The most immediate and telling evidence was the seven dancing Israelis who were arrested in New York, Mossad Agents, and in days they were whisked back to Israel, without charges. They, without any show of fear, admitted prior knowledge of the attack in interviews on their own televisions stations They stated: “We were only there to record the event.”

And only a few of us bloggers remember the 134.5 billion in U.S. Bearer Bonds found in a false bottom suitcase trying to make their way to Switzerland from Italy by Japanese Nationals, and the immediate media blackout... and we are not allowed an investigation into these profound matters, and life goes on as football season is upon us.

But it isn't just the lack of truth, the overwhelming deceit and outright lies from a media owned by international corporations, but we have respectable men, honorable men of virtue who are telling us that unless we stand up, as we the people, the next bubble will be the death of America, by foreclosure... The same kind of meltdown that happened to Russia, not so very long ago... And the scary thing is this: if we go down, the entire world will go down with us, culminating into WW3.

And all around the world people are pushing agendas, to manipulate, to confiscate, to overrule and over run, from the Egyptians, Syrians, and Yemenis as they rage against their rulers.

The Wukan uprising in China is changing the political landscape, slowly, and furious Russians are pounding at Putin's door, as he tries to withdraw from the European Jewish-owned banking systems, (as he put it) and bring to justice what he called the Jewish Mafia, at great monetary and cultural expense, and displace a religious void created during the cold war with fundamental Orthodox Christianity, who want nothing more than to save your soul and make a mandatory Church State there.

And Europe, no longer allowed to own a gun, is being overrun by Middle Easterners bent on taking over the EURO tapestry from the inside out, and without a shot, as they play the system... and it is a system designed by myopic leaders, or traitorous ones, mirror images of the ones controlling France, Australia, and America. And if it is intended or not, the outcome will be the same, unless, of course, some push back.

And yes, when the push will come, as it without a doubt will, there are some who will make unimaginable profit... The four forces that control us all... Yes, everything happening around the planet, overwhelming our very diverse and hapless citizens of Earth... are driven by the same four forces, and they are all corrosive, self-serving, and at times... overtly irresponsible:
(1) Un-reasoned, misdirected, unorganized, misinformed, and frustrated anger (rage) is our primary and universal reaction. Frustrated, because there is no way seen to organize, and no avenue to find real truth. This is the basic commonality, though all seemingly reason that our liberty is god-give, how to wrest it from a strong and far reaching power is not yet understood.

(2) Borrowing without the intent to pay it off is called debt slavery. Ponzi schemes utilizing, unchecked, both government and private debt, and it's violation of fundamental human rights, from a rigged presidential election, a military industrial complex owned by international conglomerate business and financed by international banking systems in league with an unaccountable Federal Reserve System who prints money our of thin air to pay for it all, and all of that is incorporated as future debt, American debt. We pay, with our future, for their profit. And the process creates the hidden tax of inflation, and a piece of your life and country is forfeited. War is a racket.

(3) What controls us is a competition without a moral standard, honor, or national alliance. In other words, an international corporation, bank, and the independent and unaccountable Federal Reserve System....has no allegiance to America. All of them are interested in one thing, their survival, and their profit. A bank who makes money on both sides of war, and arms dealers who supply both side of that coin, are enemies of humanity, and should be brought to justice by international law. So too, is any individual who holds office in our government who has duel citizenship. One can not serve both. On side is a traitor to the other.

(4) The last can only be described as a deadlock. This inability to formulate a way out of this fine mess by those in power is easily understood. Firstly, they do not want to be held accountable, or lose what they have acquired. Indeed, they know full well the problems at hand, and how to fix it, but will not change the institution that created this chaos... But take small steps, putting on little band aids, usually by more borrowing from a central bank to bolster their economy. Spending into further debt, is no solution... Instead they shore it up, to put off the inevitable, the unavoidable...
These so-called leaders are puppet members of a powerful and dominating structure, a shadow government, and as they dither, those who pull their strings have no fear at all... You see the greatest of all profit is made in chaos... Just like the put options just prior to 9-11 indicated that big banks and corporations knew that United and American airlines would be hijacked; they also knew that those stocks would take a dive.

They bet on this, called “put options,” and made fortunes... and just like the carpetbaggers that made their way into the south after our civil war, buying up at bankrupt prices anything not tied down, so too will these bankers not only survive a total world collapse, but afterwards, vie to own it all.

Author's note: I love my country, and that comes not only from what I was propagandized to believe, but the love I have for what I consider my American people. And I do love the entire human race as well, and have pleaded my life to do no harm. I also try to practice the teachings of Jesus Christ, and have found that if respect and love is freely given, most always you will get it back.

With this said, I see what I consider real evil in this world too... and as a Libertarian, one idea that nails all four above on the wall of my very soul, is the thought that there is a force out there so powerful, individually and collectively, that I, and all of us, are being played the fool.

Nothing on this earth, except perhaps the killing of an innocent person for profit, and both war and abortion comes to mind, but the enslavement of the spirit, by lies and deceit, is the worst of all. Of all the kinds of enslavement that power has wrought on the powerless, and throughout history, what could be more evil?

The enslavement of the mind, by instilling weakness, is scientifically done. The creation of dependence, the installation of fear, the initiation of a selfish, myopic, and self-serving ego by media taboo that subverts a free thought or free speech to fearful silence, the creation of lustful, lurid, and base addictions where a war on drugs become lucrative.

And it is manufactured, from the protected poppy fields of Afghanistan by our own military, to our own open borders where gangs of mafia cross into my beloved America... and all of it, every element, every motivation, to the last moment before our final destruction, is all about money.

It is about people who justify what they are doing, because they work in a collective environment, a corporation, a bank, a government, who just want to ride that wave a few more moments... And they know, if they stand up and make themselves accountable, their lives will no longer be their own.

They see how other people of conscience are treated by the power elite... and they sit back waiting for the bubble to pop, prepping for that final transaction, caught up in a wheel.

Yes, I see hope, and what else but optimism do we have? But I can tell you this, nothing, nothing since the dawn of mankind has anything so threatened our humanity, our very existence, as what is happening right this minute. Look around.

We are being herded into a corner, fleeced, and instead of breaking free, we show them our soft underside, and kill for them without so much as a question why... is the kind we accept from our own complacency.

And our children's future will be assured, having to ask permission to polish their own chains, just as you do. We are indeed a product of our environment, like father, like son.
