In my last piece, which covered one of the obstacles conservatives must overcome to win and sustain lasting electoral majorities at the local, state, and federal level, I addressed our ongoing battle with the left-leaning, mainstream media.
In this piece, I address two more areas which demand our attention; scam PACs, and the primary election process.
Money is tough to come by in politics when you are a grassroots candidate. If you've ever run for public office as a legitimate outsider, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. During both of my congressional elections we raised a healthy, but not an exorbitant, amount of money.
A good portion of that money came from the national exposure I received due to my rather unique story (resigning from the Secret Service during the Obama administration to run as a Republican in deep-blue Maryland).
Believe me, I wish I could sit here in my office and tell you a more encouraging story. I wish I could tell all of the aspiring, passionate, and principled conservatives looking at a run for political office that donors and money will fly to you like a pigeon to a statue, but that's simply not reality.
Even with the national exposure my race received, it still took an enormous amount of work, through constant content creation, to build my email list, my snail-mail list, my Facebook audience, and my Twitter following.
These are the tools which will provide you with the audience and, hopefully, the funds to run a successful campaign.
