Alaska has gone to pot

Alaska became the third state to legalize the use of marijuana today.

Alaska is the Third State to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

Voters passed an initiative last November to legalize the drug for use in private places.

Adult residents in America’s northernmost state are now able to personally consume weed in their homes -- as well as grow up to six plants -- and confidently be on the right side of the law.

If they get pulled over for expired tags and have up to an ounce of weed on their person, the latter is no longer going to get them in trouble - so long as they haven’t been toking and driving.

Smoking or consuming marijuana in public still remains illegal. Doing so will get you a $100 fine.

The laws on marijuana use and possession in Alaska have been vague up until the November 2014 referendum.

Weed has been quasi-legal in Alaska since 1975, when the state’s supreme court ruled that Alaska’s constitutional right to privacy included the ability to possess and use a small amount of marijuana at home.

But the force of that historic ruling became unclear when lawmakers explicitly criminalized the possession of pot, even at home, in 2006.

While getting arrested for smoking weed at home was not a common occurrence before Alaska voters legalized it in 2014, Tuesday marked the moment of clarity.

It's legal!

420 friendly: Seattle rolls 12,000 super joints

A Seattle-Based Medical Marijuana Retailer Rolled 12,000 Marijuana Joints for Sunday's Big Game.

April 20 has become a counterculture holiday in North America, where people gather to celebrate and blow some weed. Many events have a political nature to them, advocating for the legalization of marijuana and ar accompanied with other stories about how 420 began back in 1971.

By the way, it's 4:20 somewhere so lets get a hit. That's why employees at Solstice are working to roll a staggering number of joints; 12,000 in all, for its special "12th Pack" promotion ahead of Sunday, when the Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

That works out to roughly 180 to 220 joints made during an eight-hour shift — double the normal pace. "It's not like I go home with cramps or anything," a smiling employee, Katy Filippone, told a local media station.

The so-called 12th Pack, which is only being sold to medical marijuana users, is a play on the 12th man, the nickname referring to football fans.

Solstice says the 12th Pack is filled with a special "Seahawks Blend," and hopes to make it available to Washington state's recreational pot users by next season.

Solstice isn't the only pot producer hoping to earn some extra green from the Seahawks' fan base.

Last season, a Seattle marijuana delivery service called Green Umbrella began offering a homemade strain named after running back Marshawn Lynch, calling it "Beast Mode O.G." a nod to Lynch's nickname.
