The Anti-Alinsky handbook for Republicans

From the files of Dan Bongino at Blog.Bongino.com

It's not easy to be a conservative.

As the saying goes, "If I had a nickel" every time someone angrily bashed conservatism to me on the campaign trail, or while on the radio, yet simultaneously had almost no idea what conservatism actually was, I would be making regular appearances in Forbes magazine.

The Left, and their allies in the media, have done an incredible job of deluding many Americans into voting against their own interests and, at the same time, instilling into their supporters that conservatives hate them.

This strategy has convinced many to vote against conservatives, not necessarily in favor of liberals, and conservatives have struggled for decades to fight back. The methods by which the Left uses to accomplish this is a theme of Fred Siegel's excellent book The Revolt Against the Masses. In the book, Siegel discusses the Left's "Iron Triangle," consisting of interest groups, congressional committees, and their allies in the media and their strategies for ensuring that an ideological narrative is spread far and wide.

Here's how it works for the Left; an interest group takes control of a narrative such as the "War on Women." After the narrative and the wording of the message is agreed upon, these interest groups push their bought-and-sold congressional allies to call hearings on the topic, (i.e. Sandra Fluke's congressional testimony) guaranteeing widespread public attention.

Finally, an anxious, and ideologically biased media operation kicks into gear to cover the hearings and to ensure that the most "powerful" soundbites are pushed out to the media ecosystem.Sadly, what follows is what frequently happened to me when campaigning and greeting voters.

I would introduce myself, then a pleasant conversation about issues would ensue, quickly followed by an expletive and the campaign material being thrown back at me when they read that I was a Republican because they were waging a completely fictitious "war on women."

Pope - Climate Change - Volkswagen

From the files of Marita Noon at Energy Makes America Great

Meet Marita Noon
While Pope Francis was shuttled around during his historic visit to the U.S. in a Fiat, he shared the news cycle with Volkswagen.

The pope made headlines with his calls for action on climate change. USA Today touted: “Obama, Pope Francis praise each other on climate change.”

In his September 23 speech from the White House lawn, the Pope addressed President Obama saying: “I find it encouraging that you are introducing an initiative for reducing air pollution.”

Addressing that comment, Business Insider added: “He praised President Barack Obama for his proposals, which aim for the US to cut emissions by up to 28% over the next decade.”

The core of the entire climate change agenda is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions which proponents like to call “air pollution.” It comes from sources we can’t control: volcanoes; sources we can kind-of control: forest fires (better forest management would result in fewer fires) and human beings exhaling (reduce the population, reduce CO2 emissions); and sources we can control: the use of fossil fuels (we can virtually outlaw them as several countries, including the U.S., are trying to do).

The drive to cut CO2 emissions is at the root of Volkswagen’s unprecedented scandal that broke last week, resulting in the CEO’s abrupt ouster on September 23—the day that Pope Francis’ U.S. visit went into full swing.

With nonstop coverage of the papal activities—including his Fiat Popemobile—the Volkswagen story was likely lost on most Americans. But it is not going away.

On September 18, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency disclosed the scandal: Europe’s biggest auto maker, with 600,000 employees world-wide and 300,000 in Germany, utilized software on some VW and Audi diesel-powered cars to manipulate the results of routine emissions tests—allowing them pass strict emissions standards in Europe and the U.S.

The “defeat devices” have reportedly been fitted to more than 11 million vehicles since 2008 and may cost Volkswagen up to $18 billion in fines in the U.S. alone. Owners of the impacted vehicles will need to have a heretofore unavailable “fix” installed and may have to provide a “proof of correction certificate” in order to renew their registration and will suffer “loss due to the diminished value of the cars.”

As a result of the scandal, Volkswagen’s stock price and reputation have both fallen precipitously, and class-action lawsuits are already taking shape. Fund managers have been banned from buying VW’s stocks and bonds. Tens of thousands of new cars may remain unsold. USNews stated: “Whoever is responsible could face criminal charges in Germany.”

The question no one seems to be asking is: what would drive Europe’s biggest auto maker to make such a costly decision, to take a risk, from which it may be impossible to recover, and tarnish the “made-in-Germany brand”?

While the question isn’t asked, Reuters coverage of the story offers the answer: “Diesel engines use less fuel and emit less carbon—blamed for global warming—than standard gasoline engines. But they emit higher levels of toxic gases known as nitrogen oxides.”

In short, the answer is the drive to lower CO2 emissions and the policies that encourage reduction.

In BloombergView, Clive Crook offers this excellent explanation: Beginning in the mid-1990s, mindful of their commitments to cut carbon emissions, Europe’s governments embarked on a prolonged drive to convert their car fleets from gasoline to diesel.

With generous use of tax preferences, they succeeded. In the European Union as a whole, diesel vehicles now account for more than half of the market. In France, the first country to cross that threshold, diesel now accounts for roughly 80 percent of motor-fuel consumption.

What was the reasoning? Diesel contains more carbon than gasoline, but diesel engines burn less fuel: Net, switching to diesel ought to give you lower emissions of greenhouse gases. However, there’s a penalty in higher emissions of other pollutants, including particulates and nitrogen oxides, or NOx. Curbing those emissions requires expensive modifications to cars’ exhaust systems.

To facilitate the switch, Europe made its emission standards for these other pollutants less stringent for diesel engines than for gasoline engines. The priority, after all, was to cut greenhouse gases.

If anyone could solve the dilemma, one would expect it to be the Germans, who excel in engineering feats. It is Germany that is touted as the world leader in all things green. The reality of achieving the goals, however, is far more difficult than passing the legislation calling for the energy transformation.

Addressing German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s push for de-carbonization, BloombergBusiness Points out: “Merkel has built a reputation as a climate crusader during a decade as Chancellor.” She “has straddled between pushing to reduce global warming while protecting her country’s auto industry.”

Merkel is, apparently, bumping up against reality. After shutting down its nuclear power plants, Germany has had to rely more on coal. BloombergBusiness continues: “She successfully helped block tighter EU carbon emissions standards two years ago.” Those tighter emissions standards would have hurt Germany’s auto industry, which accounts for 1 in 7 jobs in the country and 20 percent of its exports.

At last week’s Frankfurt Auto Show Merkel said: “We have to ensure politically that what’s doable can indeed be translated into law, but what’s not doable mustn’t become European law.”

Evidence suggests the issue “could be industry-wide.” CNBC reports: “several major companies having exposure to the same diesel technology.” BMW’s stock price plunged, according to BloombergBusiness: “after a report that a diesel version of the X3 sport utility vehicle emitted more than 11 times the European limit for air pollution in a road test.”

The Financial Times quotes Stuart Pearson, an analyst at Exane BNP Paribas, as saying: VW was “unlikely to have been the only company to game the system globally.” And an October 2014 study, cited in BloombergBusiness, claims that “road tests of 15 new diesel cars were an average of seven times higher than European limits.”

The VW emissions scandal is more than just a “‘bad episode’ for the car industry,” as Germany’s vice-chancellor, Sigmar Gabriel, called it. It provides a lesson in the collision of economic and environmental policies that strive to reach goals, which are presently technologically unachievable - a lesson that regulators and policy makers have yet to learn.

The Los Angeles Times (LAT) reports: “Regulators have ordered Volkswagen to come up with a fix that allows vehicles to meet environmental regulations.” If it were that easy, even economically possible, the much-vaunted German engineering could have solved the problem instead of developing technology that found a way around the rules. LAT concludes: “automotive experts believe any repair will diminish the driving dynamics of the vehicles and slash fuel economy - the two major characteristics that attracted buyers.”

The fact that, while waving the flag of environmental virtue advocated by Pope Francis, those, with the world’s best engineering at their fingertips, had to use the expertise to develop a work-around should serve as a lesson to policymakers who pass legislation and regulation on ideology rather than reality.

Hillary caught again says Watchdog

From the files of Jim Kouri at COP Magazine

Write Jim Kouri at COP Magazine

Documents released by an "inside-the-Beltway" watchdog group this week revealed that, contrary to what she has repeatedly claimed, Hillary Clinton personally signed the official forms in 2012 that allowed her top aide and confidante, Huma Abedin, to be designated a special government worker. The Democratic presidential hopeful's denials of any involvement in the situation was most recently heard during an NBC television interview

During Mrs. Clinton's arguably fluffy interview by NBC's Andrea Mitchell on Sept. 4, the former Secretary of State was quizzed about Abedin -- the wife of disgraced Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner --being paid at the same time by the U.S.State Department, the Clinton Foundation, and consulting firm for which former President Bill Clinton sat on the board of directors. The firm's name is Teneo, and it was founded by one Bill Clinton's closest aides.

"Well... I wasn't directly involved in that," Clinton answered. "But everything that [Abedin] did was approved, under the rules, as they existed, by the State Department."

The document with Clinton's signature was obtained by Judicial Watch as part of its Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. It provides proof that Clinton's signature authorized a title change for Huma Abedin on March 23, 2012. The arrangement enabled Huma Abedin to cash-in on three lucrative jobs at the same time. "I'm sure the extra money came in handy when Huma's husband 'lost' his job as a U.S. Congressman as a result of an Internet sex scandal," said former police detective Sid Franes.

In an official letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, Sen. Chuck Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, stated that a special probe by the State Department's inspector general uncovered possible leveraging of a State Department job by Huma Abedin that appears to have benefited her other employers while she worked for Mrs. Clintion. The letter mentions the two paid positions with the now infamous Clinton Foundation and a consulting firm called Teneo Strategies that is also tied to former President Bill Clinton.

The so-called consulting firm known as Teneo Strategies is run by Douglas Band who once served as a special adviser to President Bill Clinton. Part of the Teneo firm's success has been Band bragging to potential clients and other that the former president is a paid board member and has been in that position since 2011, coincidentally while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State, according to this writer's report for the Examiner.

According to Sen. Grassley's letter to Kerry, Abedin allegedly sent or received more than 7,000 emails on her government account that involved Band and his firm which conducted business overseas with nations that benefited from having the Secretary of State's ear. One example of Abedin's potential conflicts of interest, an email exchange was discovered in which Band pressured Abedin to encourage Hillary Clinton to help one of his clients secure a White House appointment.

Judith Rodin, Band's client, was then president of the Rockefeller Foundation based in New York City, "which donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation, a fact which Mr. Band allegedly noted in his email to Ms. Abedin," the Grassley letter noted. "[The] email evidence allegedly suggests that Ms. Abedin and Ms. Mills shared a desire to find a way to ensure the Department paid for Ms. Abedin's travel to and from New York," the Grassley letter states.

Grassley is also questioning a payment of more than $30,000 that Ms. Abedin received from the State Department for leave she hadn't used. However, there are questions unanswered about the times she took off from the State Department but worked for the Clinton Foundation or Teneo Strategies. The Iowa Republican pointed out that the Senate Judiciary Committee found evidence that Abedin had indeed taken leave during her time as a government employee, and it has led to questions about whether or not Abedin, according to the aforementioned Examiner story.

Critics have accused Hillary Clinton of once again bending the rules -- in this case personnel regulations -- to allow Huma Abedin to collect her government paycheck while wielding her influence to the benefit of her other employers who did business with the State Department. Grassley cited Hillary Clinton's trip to Ireland with Huma Abedin for her last official appearance as secretary of State. While in Ireland Mrs. Clinton attended an event hosted by a major Clinton Foundation donor -- under the guise of a charitable contribution -- that was being promoted by Teneo.

"No matter how you slice it, these people were sucking up taxpayer money in some inventive ways that would put the average American in federal prison. It almost appears to be an organized crime shell-game, but as usual Democrats ask where's the smoking gun?" noted former criminal investigator Cheryl Freedman said.

“These documents show the Huma Abedin received special treatment contrary to law and that Hillary Clinton personally approved a corrupt patronage position,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These new documents are smoking gun evidence of what Hillary Clinton’s separate email server was all about – keeping secret the corruption of her and her top staff. What else is out there?”

FOX News biased says Trump

From the files of Jeff Crouere at Ringside Politics in New Orleans, Louisiana

Meet Jeff Crouere
Ever since it was launched in 1996, Fox News has enjoyed an ever growing television audience. Talk show host Rush Limbaugh often promoted Fox News in the early years of the network, helping to establish the connection with conservatives across the country. In fact, thanks to Rush and others on talk radio, Fox News enjoyed tremendous ratings growth over the last 19 years.

Today, Fox News is the unquestioned ratings champion among cable news channels. One other factor determining ratings success has been the unpopularity of the left wing content being delivered by competitors such as CNN and MSNBC. Viewers interested in fair and balanced news coverage, as opposed to liberal indoctrination, have flocked to Fox News.

The problem is that Fox News, while not a liberal network, is unfriendly to true conservatives. For example, most Fox News hosts are either moderate or downright liberal. Their mid-day host, Shepard Smith, is clearly liberal on a wide variety of issues and just this week was insulting conservatives who have been critical of Pope Francis.

The evening hosts such as Greta Van Susteren and Bill O’Reilly are not conservatives and have liberal views on many issues. Megyn Kelly is an independent, who has some conservative views, but has recently become obsessed with derailing Donald Trump. While Sean Hannity is a conservative, many of his favorite guests are members of the Republican establishment, who often battle conservatives on endorsements and policies.

The network consistently uses a variety of stale analysts who routinely criticize Trump. Supposed experts such as George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Brit Hume and Karl Rove are card carrying members of the GOP establishment who see Trump as a threat. Not surprisingly, these guests and others highlighted by Fox News regularly attack Trump, yet defenders of the GOP front runner are given minimal air time.

Polls show that the strongest base of support for Trump is among Tea Party conservatives. These are voters who are angry at the GOP establishment and want the party to be more aggressive in dealing with the Democrats and the liberal media. Instead of complimenting Trump for what he has accomplished in only a few months, Fox News focuses on stories that lampoon or criticize the front runner.

In fact, Trump spokesman Michael Cohen claims that the network is “marginalizing him, they’re criticizing him, they’re trying to figure out how to get this man out of the race.”

Trump is rightly concerned about the type of coverage he has received. In the first debate, Fox News targeted Trump with a variety of hostile questions with Kelly implying that he despised and demeaned women. In the aftermath, Trump loudly complained about Kelly until a truce was called. Earlier this week, the feud erupted again as he lambasted the network for what he labeled a pattern of unfair treatment.

Then, the network cancelled his appearance on O’Reilly show while Trump announced an official boycott of the network. The dispute reached the apex on Kelly’s Wednesday night show when National Review Editor Rich Lowry stated that Carly Fiorina “cut (Trump’s) b….. off with the precision of a surgeon” in the second debate.

This foul language reportedly angered Fox News CEO Roger Ailes who realizes Trump now has the upper hand in this dispute. Next week they will meet to discuss the type of coverage Trump has been receiving on the network. Before another truce is achieved, Trump will undoubtedly insist on more balanced coverage from a network that has a history of preferring moderates such as Mitt Romney to win nomination contests over more conservative opponents.

In this election cycle, viewers surely notice that the majority of Fox News commentators and guests seem to prefer anybody but Donald Trump. If this type of bias continues, it remains to be seen if conservatives, the backbone of their audience, will remain loyal to the network. Stay tuned.

The shutdown message

Every now and then, the GOP should disrupt the status quo says Lawrence 'Larry' Kudlow

Visit Larry Kudlow Online

Meet Larry Kudlow
Nobody really likes government shutdowns, including me. But sometimes you have to make a point. Send a message. Show voters what you really believe. Take a stand.

With John Boehner set to resign at the end of October, many believe the outgoing speaker can team up with House Democrats to avoid a government shutdown on October 1. Ace Washington watcher Dan Clifton of Wall Street firm Strategis reports, “The risk of a government shutdown next week has been eliminated.” And he expects Congress to pass a short-term continuing resolution that will fund government appropriations through December 11.

That would be a clean bill that does not defund Planned Parenthood. More Democrats than Republicans would support it. And Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell stands ready to pass a similar clean resolution.

But will this non-disruptive approach really work? Nancy Pelosi wants to reauthorize the Ex-Im bank. House Republicans do not. So far the House has not come up with a plan to finance the Highway Trust Fund. And then there’s the issue of defunding Planned Parenthood -- because of the vile and depraved videos of the removal of fetal body parts -- that weighs heavily on the national conscience. Is defunding really dead?

So a shutdown is still possible. Most of the Beltway media will blame Republicans. Democrats will blame Republicans. And GOP pundits will blame Republicans. Political death, they will say.

Really?

Former National Review reporter Andrew Stiles wrote a most interesting government-shutdown piece almost two years ago when Senator Ted Cruz and other Republicans filibustered to stop full funding of Obamacare. Stiles pointed out that the Cruz shutdown was the 18th shutdown since 1976. And he argued that Democrat Tip O’Neill presided over two-thirds of them.

In the late 1970s shutdowns occurred when the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White House. The disagreement was over abortion policy. That caused three shutdowns.

Stiles noted that during the Reagan-O’Neill era, most of the shutdowns were budget focused. Reagan wanted less spending; the Democrats wanted more. They also bickered over funding for missile programs.

The Reagan-O’Neill-era shutdowns were short, and in most of them Reagan prevailed. Meanwhile, the Reagan recovery flourished, the Republicans held the Senate (until 1986), and the Gipper was reelected in a landslide in 1984.

Going back to the Obamacare-related shutdown of 2013, a bit more than a year later the Republicans swept the Senate and gained an even larger majority in the House.

I am not arguing for a constant series of budget shutdowns. And I will always oppose any expiration of the U.S. Treasury debt ceiling. That would be a harmful global economic event. No good. But it is worth remembering that there are no catastrophic political or economic consequences attached to these shutdowns.

Surely, shutdowns are a cumbersome way to make a point. But the GOP base is clamoring for a more aggressive Republican Congress. The grassroots are angry and frustrated that the Republican House and Senate have not passed a series of large-scale bills.

There’s been no repeal and rewrite of Obamacare. There’s been no corporate tax reform, at a minimum, or overall personal tax reform. There’s been no energy bill -- not just to build the XL pipeline, but to end limits on oil and gas exports and drilling on federal lands.

Immigration reform is a hot topic on the presidential-debate scene. But there’s been nothing on this from Congress. And the huge issue is the Iran nuclear deal, which in addition to being unverifiable would give Iran $150 billion to kill more American soldiers and advance its domination of the Middle East. But the congressional GOP response has been weak and confusing.

And the fact that legislative hurdles -- such as the filibuster, 60-vote rule in the Senate -- prevents these reforms is unsatisfying to the GOP base.

Of course, the arrogant and ideologically stubborn President Obama would veto all these reforms if they ever got to his desk. But if I read the grassroots properly, they know this and believe these vetoes would set the stage for a big Republican victory in 2016.

A key point here is that you can’t govern form Congress alone. You need the White House. Expectations from last November’s sweep were always too high.

But perhaps Republican leadership in both Houses might think of this: There are too many deals and not enough principles, beliefs, and clear messaging.

The GOP ultimately will nominate a presidential candidate who will hopefully get the right message out. But in the meantime, as House Republicans choose a new top team and Majority Leader McConnell continues his term in the Senate, the congressional GOP leadership should think harder about principled messaging and less about accommodation.

If that requires a short-run shutdown, so be it.

U.S. Border Patrol agent indicted for murder

By Jim Kouri at Kouir and Associates

A grand jury on Wednesday indicted an American Border Patrol agent for the shooting of 16-year-old Jose Antonio Rodriguez during an incident at the border separating the state of Arizona from Mexico in October 2012. The shooting further polarized the public, with illegal immigrants and their supporters on one side while pro-police and anti-amnesty supporters on the other side of the explosive border security issue.

Those applauding the case being brought before a federal grand jury, cheered when they heard former agent Lonnie Swartz would stand trial for his killing the Mexican teenager. The results of the current indictment are a far cry from what occurred in a similar case in which a 15-year-old named Hernandez Guereca was shot across the border and killed. In that case, a three-judge panel of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals originally said Hernandez Guereca’s family could sue the city of Mesa, Arizona, but the full court overturned the June 2010 ruling in April 2015.

The federal grand jury on Wednesday handed down an indictment against Border Patrol agent Swartz, charging him with second-degree murder. On Oct. 10, 2012, Swartz allegedly fired his service weapon through the border fence into Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, killing Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez. The teen's family has already filed a civil lawsuit, according to Homeland Security Newswire.

CBS News reported that Border Patrol officials said in 2014 that Swartz fired his handgun after being pelted with large rocks that were thrown over the fence as agents and police officers tried to stop two suspected drug smugglers. His family says the boy was walking home from a basketball game with friends and was not armed or throwing rocks. The medical examiner claimed at the time that teenager was shot a total of ten times.

"The CBS report and other statements in the media would have civilians believe there was excessive force, but that's not necessarily so," said former police training officer Manny Roccia. "Being struck in the head or other area by a rock thrown at about 50 or 60 miles per hour could seriously injure a cop or even kill him or her if it strikes a sensitive part of the head or body," Roccia said.

According to Swartz’s defense team leader, Sean Chapman, the decorated agent will plead not guilty when he's arraigned on October 9. Chapman told news outlets that he expects the case will be tried in court. CBS News reporter Anna Werner without giving a source for her allegation, said there have been several similar cases involving shootings by Border Patrol agents. However, she failed to provide examples or neglected to describe the circumstances.

"The media seems to forget the cases of Border Patrol agents being killed by border crashers, such as the Fast and Furious scandal's Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and other agents killed in cold-blood. In fact, last week the federal government finally got around to trying two suspects in Agent Terry's murder," said former police detective and narcotics agent Melanie Porchost.

U.S. patent office just phones it in

From Michael Shannon at Newsmax.com and The Whole Shebang (mostly)

Once a government agency receives an award for a program, it becomes expensive for taxpayers.

An award–winning program is immune to internal criticism and is used to bolster agency supervisors’ case for an annual bonus.

Just think of the disasters that followed Obama's Nobel Prize.

In this instance the Patent and Trademark office won an award for a telework program that is all tele and little work.

Pop-tart gun vs suitcase clock

From the files of Jeannie DeAngelis at The American Thinker

In an effort to assuage what is perceived to be the fragile sensibilities of Muslim-Americans, Barack Obama has once again bowed to political correctness by extending his usual partiality toward an individual based solely on skin color and religion.

This time, the person at the center of the controversy is Ahmed Mohamed. Ahmed is the 14-year-old Sudanese-American aspiring clockmaker who has proven to be bright enough to impress his teachers with his engineering prowess – but apparently not bright enough to know that bringing a homemade digital clock to school with wires snaking out of it, stored inside a suitcase (or briefcase, if you will), isn’t a good idea.

As it turns out, Ahmed is also the son of Sufi Dallas imam Mohamed Elhassan, who once ran for the presidency in Sudan on the platform that, if elected, he would lift sanctions the U.S. imposed on Sudan in the late 1990s because of that nation’s alleged sponsorship of terrorism. Mr. Elhassan was also embroiled in controversy when he acted as a defense attorney on behalf of the Quran when Florida Pastor Terry Jones threatened to burn the Islamic holy book.

Mohamed Elhassan, who calls himself a sheik, now has a son who in his own right has become an overnight social media sensation by managing to register on Barack Obama’s racial injustice radar.

Despite young Ahmed being treated more respectfully than other children half his age who’ve been punished for doing things far less alarming than bringing a suitcase clock to class, in reaction to the school taking routine precautions concerning Ahmed’s science project, the Mohamed family is accusing the Irving, Texas school district of Islamophobia.

One would think that since immigration has swelled the Muslim population in America to 6.2 million, the Mohameds would understand that because Ahmed is one of millions of Allah-loving students presently occupying desks in America’s classrooms, reprimanding their son doesn’t mean he’s being profiled.

Nonetheless, unlike in the case of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who also had an affinity for wiring up and transporting household items, being a Muslim with a digital clock in a suitcase has served Ahmed well.

For starters, Obama, who still hasn’t contacted Kate Steinle’s parents since their daughter was murdered by an illegal alien and felon in San Francisco, tweeted kudos to the studious teen. In the tweet, the would-be horologist got an invitation to bring the ticking timepiece to the same White House that goes into lockdown over suspicious-looking coffee cups.

Above clock-making, Ahmed is being celebrated for his interest in science. As a matter of fact, in his laudatory tweet, President Obama, who also inspires young Iranians to take an interest in nuclear science, commended Mohamed for his technical expertise by implying that kids making clocks that look like suitcase bombs exemplify “what makes America great.”

In addition to Obama’s invite, Ahmed also got a “like” from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerburg, was offered an internship at Twitter, and, after being pictured wearing a NASA t-shirt, was offered a summer scholarship at Space Camp USA in Alabama.

However, what this love fest has yet to reveal is how an all-American kid like Ahmed’s detention for bringing a suspicious-looking suitcase to school may have successfully paved the way for children with Muslim-sounding names to avoid being questioned if, in the future, they too decide to pack a “cool clock” or a pressure cooker into their backpacks.

Moreover, if liking science is an indicator of inspirational greatness, one can’t help but wonder why the president never commended young Josh Welch of Baltimore, Maryland for his exciting artistic expression.

Instead, Josh, the seven-year-old who maintained that his Pop-Tart “gun” was just an attempt to fashion a breakfast food into a mountain range, was suspended from school for two days because, instead of the Grand Tetons, Josh’s creation resembled something that looked like a Glock 19.

If only Josh had made a clock that looked like a Glock, President Obama might have invited him to the White House, too!

Not likely.

Then there’s six-year-old Rodney Lynch, also from Maryland. In 2013, around the time of his run-in with the law, Rodney was a big fan of cartoons. Seems the imaginative Mr. Lynch positioned his thumb and index finger into the shape of an “L.” Rodney’s design did not say “tick-tock” like Ahmed’s, but after molding his fingers into a gun, the tyke was heard uttering the word “Pow!” For that, and to ensure the school’s “sense of safety and security,” Rodney was suspended for a day and has yet to receive a tweet from the president.

There’s also the case of the five-year-old Pennsylvania girl who, in a debate at the bus stop, insisted that princess bubble-blowers are superior to Hello Kitty bubble guns.

When the princess bubble-blower girl suggested that the two friends test their claims by shooting each other with soapsuds, the barely-out-of-diapers five-year-old was accused of making a “terrorist threat,” mandated to attend counseling sessions with a therapist, and suspended for 10 days.

In 2009, an 11-year-old student was arrested, thrown in jail, and charged with a third-degree felony for bringing a plastic butter knife to school. That same year, an eight-year-old Massachusetts boy was mandated to have psychological counseling for drawing a picture of Jesus on the cross while in school.

Not so with Ahmed. After toting a homemade clock that looked like a suitcase bomb to school, the kid is a national hero, and the Irving Independent School District is under fire for investigating the digital clock in a suitcase as a potential threat.

What ever happened to the Janet Napolitano-coined DHS motto “If you see something, say something?”

At the end of the day, this isn’t about a presidential tweet or whether the authorities discriminated against a Muslim kid with an interest in science. The crux of the issue here is why schools’ “zero tolerance” safety policy suddenly has two different standards. Why, in the midst of the War on Terror, should a 14-year-old boy of Middle Eastern descent bringing a ticking circuit board to school in a metal suitcase be exempted from scrutiny?

Taxpayers monthly government receipt

From the files of Dan Bongino at the Conservative Review

Here at Conservative Review we recently launched a new feature called the Taxpayer's Monthly Government Receipt where we detail for you a receipt documenting the extraordinary financial burdens the cost of government is placing on your life.

Whether taking the form of taxes paid, future taxes owed, government debts incurred, or future government obligations, these financial burdens are YOURS. There is no money fairy to rescue us. There are not enough wealthy people to pay a "fair share" high enough to get us out of this debt hole. These are our debts and they WILL be paid off by the sweat of your brow and the labor of your children and grandchildren.

After reading through the Taxpayer's Monthly Government Receipt I decided to write this piece to call attention to the burden on your freedom, as well as your wallet.

The Liberty Receipt: Healthcare

Prior to the passing of Obamacare, using questionable legislative tactics, you were free to purchase health insurance or not, and to tailor it to your family's needs. Many self-employed, or young and healthy individuals who felt it was more cost effective to pay their medical bills themselves took advantage of their freedom and liberty and didn't purchase expensive health insurance.

After Obamacare, you lost the ability to make those decisions for yourself. The government makes these decisions for you now, using the power of the IRS to ensure that you comply.

In short, liberty was lost.

Have Christians got an enemy in Obama?

By Wayne Allyn Root at Root for America

Is He or Isn't He?
Donald Trump is now being asked "Is Obama a Muslim?" I have a few answers for him.

First, why does it matter? Obama is destroying America, American exceptionalism, middle class jobs, and America's respect and standing all over the world. Whether he's a Muslim or Christian is meaningless. The real question is "How Do We Make America Great Again?"

How do we pay off $18 trillion in debt before it implodes the US economy? How do we create an economy offering something besides low-wage, part-time jobs? How do we save the middle class from Obamacare's doubling and tripling of health insurance premiums? How do we save the world from Muslim radicals?

Whether Obama is a Muslim or Christian won't solve any of the disasters he has so deftly put into motion.

Secondly, although Obama claims to be a Christian, it's certainly not dumb or ignorant to wonder if he's telling the truth. After all, he has a history of lying with impunity about so many things.

He looked the American people in the eye and lied when he swore "If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor." At the moment Obama made that promise he was lying. Internal White House documents reported that 93 million Americans would lose their plans.

And, he promised Obamacare would reduce the cost of health insurance premiums. Wrong.

And, he promised Obamacare would reduce the deficit. Wrong. The CBO has walked that line back.

And, he promised "Obamacare will create 4 million jobs." Off by 6.5 million jobs in the wrong direction.

He lied about all of it.

Then there were his lies about Benghazi...or do you still think it was a spontaneous uprising based on a movie no one ever saw? The facts prove it was known to Obama as a terrorist attack at the moment that he announced it as a protest based on a movie offensive to Islam.

Obama lied about the IRS scandal. It's not small...it wasn't a mistake...it wasn't based in one office in Cincinnati. If you believe either Obama or one of his political operatives wasn't giving the orders to persecute conservative groups and critics (like me), I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

Obama called Bush "unpatriotic" for adding $4 trillion to the national debt and promised to cut the debt in half during his first term. This was such an audacious lie that once in office Obama never mentioned it again and instead added triple the debt of Bush ($12 trillion) and more debt than all the Presidents in US history COMBINED by the time he leaves office.

Third, Christianity includes a broad range of religious beliefs and practices. Obama chose to attend a church in Chicago where he followed, befriended, and looked to its minister, Jeremiah Wright, as a spiritual advisor. This is the same Jeremiah Wright who preached hatred for America, white people, Jews and Israel... and screamed "God damn America" to his congregation.

Most American's would call such a church led by someone like Jeremiah Wright a cult, and his followers (as a best case scenario) weird, bizarre, radical, America-hating Christians.

Fourth, my blue-collar butcher father had great common sense. He always said "Actions speak louder than words."

Let's look at just a few of Obama's actions:

There is a worldwide war on Christians. Christians are being persecuted and murdered. Not only does Obama say and do nothing, he has taken numerous actions (the Iranian Nuclear Deal being the most obvious), that directly put Christians (as well as Jews) in more danger. Strange behavior for an American president, whether Christian or not.

Why does Obama refuse to use the words "Muslim" and "terrorist" in the same sentence?

He refuses to even admit that ISIS is a Muslim group even though their name stands for "Islamic State."

Obama has quietly imported over 250,000 Muslim immigrants into America per year during his presidency.

How many are terrorists? How many want to live under Shariah law? How many are on welfare, thereby overwhelming our system?

Obama claims we're winning the war against ISIS, when the facts show we are losing.

He appears to be purposely doing nothing and buying ISIS valuable time to grow stronger. Soon they will be impossible to stop.

One Muslim boy was offended by his teachers and Obama immediately invited him to the White House.

Has any child of a police officer murdered in the line of duty, or the child of any of the U.S. soldiers murdered by a Muslim at Ft Hood ever been invited to the White House?

When American heroes were shot by a Muslim terrorist in Tennessee, why did Obama refuse for almost a week to lower the White House flag to half staff?

With Iran, Obama agreed to the single most pathetic and dangerous treaty in American history...a treaty that lets a terrorist state monitor itself.

A treaty that gives a terrorist state a massive $150 billion reward that will be used to support Islamic terrorism all over the world...and kill Americans. A treaty filled with secret agreements Obama won't even show US Senators. A treaty that left behind four US prisoners. He then re-wrote the rules of the Constitution that require the support of 2/3rds of Congress to ratify any treaty.

Even those Americans who are unwilling to admit they were wrong with their votes in 2008 and 2012, and want to keep their heads buried in the sand, must admit that this is bizarre behavior for an American President, even one who is a member of a bizarre, radical Christian cult.

So...Donald Trump's answer should be...

With friends like Obama, Christians don't need enemies.

Dan Youra is one of the outstanding conservative cartoonists in the trade today who follows in the footsteps of the great political cartoon masters, whose quotes inspire a new generation of followers.
"Outside of basic intelligence, there is nothing more important to a good political cartoonist than ill will." ~ Jules Feiffer, Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist.
"Too many of today's artists regard editorial cartooning as a trade instead of a profession. They try not to be too offensive. The hell with that. We need more stirrer-uppers." ~ Bill Mauldin.
Youra was one of the first recipients of a Fulbright Scholarship and worked in Latin America. He served as an editor of Current Thought on Peace and War at the United Nations in New York.

"As long as there are politicians who continue to try and fool the voters, there is no chance of ever running out of material to work with because they create it themselves and about themselves," says Dan Youra.

Dan is the small business owner and operator of the Youra Studios located in the State of Washington.
