Host of “The View” Whoopi Goldberg had a lot to say about being called African-American during a heated debate on immigration policy in the United States.
Whoopi’s rant came just after Joy Behar had quipped that she would need to seek asylum if Donald Trump was elected president.
Here’s what Whoopi said:
“You know what? Uh uh! This is my country. My mother, my grandmother, my great-grand folks, we busted ass to be here.
I’m an American. I’m not an African-American. I’m not a chick-American. I’m an American!”Co-host Raven-Symoné has had similar feelings in the past, telling fellow hosts in 2014:
“I’m tired of being labeled. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American. I’m an American.”The audience and co-hosts fell silent at Goldberg’s sudden and powerful proclamation, but the debate still rages online.
