It's election day for a reason

From the Files of Jeff Jacoby at The Boston Globe

Read the Jeff Jacoby Column at the Boston Globe

Except diplomats posted abroad, early voting isn't an option in Israeli elections. So when Israel's election day dawned on Tuesday, with impressions of the campaign's home stretch fresh in voters' minds, no one in the country had yet cast a ballot.

The giant pre-election rallies in Tel Aviv, the final flurry of ads, the polls showing the main opposition party in the lead, the prime minister's unexpected repudiation of a Palestinian state: Together Israelis had taken it all in, and together Israelis would put it all to a vote.

That experience of a collective Election Day is one that voters in the United States used to take for granted. No longer.

Over the past two decades, early voting has become routine in American elections, with citizens in 36 states and the District of Columbia permitted to cast their ballots well in advance of Election Day, either by mail or at early-voting polling stations. In 2012, according to the United States Election Project at the University of Florida, at least 32 million votes were banked early, a whopping one-fourth of all ballots cast nationwide that year.

Other calculations range even higher: A presidential commission on election administration reported last year that the number of votes cast before Election Day in 2012 was 47 million, nearly one-third the US total.

Is this wise? Does the metamorphosis of Election Day into Election Month strengthen the machinery of democratic self-government? Plainly, many Americans think so. "Whenever we have a law that expands access to the ballot and makes it easier for people to register and to vote," former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said last year after signing a law to authorize early voting in the state beginning in 2016, "it makes our democracy better."

Except that it doesn't. At best, it only makes it more convenient — and that convenience comes with downside tradeoffs.

First, far from motivating more citizens to participate in elections, early-voting laws actually decrease turnout. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin, in a study published in the American Journal of Political Science, have shown that early voting "lower[s] the likelihood of turnout by three to four percentage points."

Why? Because by dragging out for weeks what had been the concentrated, communal experience of a single decision day, early-voting laws wind up "dissipating the energy of Election Day" and "reducing the civic significance of elections for individuals." The Tuesday after the first Monday in November used to be a climactic moment when the nation turned out to choose its leaders. Now it's merely when the voting stops.

A second tradeoff, even more unfortunate, is the loss of informational equality. In some states, the early-voting window opens more than six weeks before Election Day — a month and a half! Think of what can happen in the last 45 days of a campaign: a high-stakes debate, an outrageous gaffe, an international crisis, a late-in-the-game promise, a surge of momentum, a demoralizing admission, a spectacular endorsement.

"Early voters are in essence asked a different set of questions from later ones," argued Eugene Kontorovic and John McGinnis, law professors at Northwestern University, in an essay in Politico last year. "They are voting with a different set of facts." That isn't the way to make democracy better.

Jurors don't retire to reach a verdict until the trial is over and all testimony has been heard.
Shouldn't voters wait until the campaign is over before casting their ballots
?

Like a jury retiring to consider its verdict, Israel turned out en masse to elect a new parliament — and only after all the testimony was in. No voters had cause to regret a vote cast weeks earlier, or to wish they had known then what they knew now. Israelis don't vote when they decide they've heard enough. They vote, as Americans used to vote, on Election Day.

You don't have to look to Israel to know that a campaign's last innings are often the most enlightening or game-changing. Just think of the revelation, days before the 2000 election, of George W. Bush's drunk-driving arrest.

Or John Silber's prickly interview with Natalie Jacobson as the 1990 Massachusetts governor's race neared its climax. Or Lyndon Johnson's bombing halt in North Vietnam on the eve of the razor-sharp election in 1968. Or Ross Perot's wild claim, late in the 1992 campaign, of his daughter's wedding being sabotaged by Republicans.

Elections are more meaningful when voters act collectively, coming together at one time to make their political choices. We may disagree sharply over whom ultimately to choose, but the choosing should be done when the campaign ends — on a clearly defined Election Day, not a long-drawn-out election season.

Campaign contributions and double standards

From the files of Jeff Jacoby at The Boston Globe

Under the First Amendment, Massachusetts may not privilege
some political speakers over others — not even labor unions
.
What does Massachusetts have against the First Amendment?

A lawsuit filed in Superior Court by two family-owned companies — 1A Auto Inc., an auto-parts vendor in Pepperell, and 126 Self Storage Inc., a storage-unit rental firm in Ashland — challenges state campaign-finance rules so crazily lopsided they should be equipped with grab bars.

Massachusetts law has long banned businesses from contributing to political candidates or parties, but under rules dating back to the 1980s, labor unions are free to spend up to $15,000 per year in direct political contributions with no disclosure required.

Labor unions can also set up PACs — political action committees — to funnel money to candidates and parties they support. Businesses in Massachusetts aren't allowed to do that either.

The sheer unfairness of such regulations speaks for itself. Whatever your view of unions or businesses — or of any interest group — there should be only one standard for determining whether they can engage in political expression.

In 15 states, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, businesses and unions alike are prohibited from making direct campaign contributions. Nearly twice as many states permit both to contribute on equal terms.

If you didn't know better, you might think it a no-brainer that a state like Massachusetts — a cradle of American liberty, the home of such free-speech champions as Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. and Louis Brandeis — would be in the second group, holding the marketplace of ideas open to all comers.

Instead Massachusetts is one of a handful of states that blatantly discriminates, blocking campaign contributions from businesses while clearing the way for unions to get involved in electoral contests. The $15,000 no-disclosure loophole is especially egregious. "More than any other state," argues Jim Manley, a senior litigator with the Arizona-based Goldwater Institute, a pro-bono legal group representing the plaintiffs, "Massachusetts' campaign contribution restrictions are tilted in favor of unions and against businesses."

This isn't the first time the state has faced legal action over its disregard for First Amendment freedoms

In McCullen v. Coakley, a case decided last June, the US Supreme Court unanimously struck down the Massachusetts "buffer zone" law, which prohibited even peaceful speech or silent protest within 35 feet of abortion clinics.

The justices rejected the state's claim that the sweeping ban made it easy to preserve public order. "A painted line on the sidewalk is easy to enforce," the court observed dryly, "but the prime objective of the First Amendment is not efficiency."

Massachusetts was likewise rebuked by the high court in 1995, when the justices slapped down attempts to force organizers of the South Boston St. Patrick's Day parade to include a gay and lesbian group among the marchers.

Such behavior "grates on the First Amendment," wrote Justice David Souter. Government "is not free to interfere with speech for no better reason than promoting an approved message or discouraging a disfavored one."

An even earlier free-speech landmark, the 1978 case of Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, is especially relevant to the new lawsuit over contributions. Massachusetts had made it illegal for businesses to give money to ballot initiative campaigns.

The Supreme Court ruled that under the Bill of Rights, no such ban could stand: There is "no support in the First or Fourteenth Amendment . . . for the proposition that speech that otherwise would be within the protection of the First Amendment loses that protection simply because its source is a corporation."

The key teaching of the Bellotti case — that the First Amendment does not allow political speech restrictions based on a speaker's corporate identity — is not one that the Supreme Court has backed away from.

If anything, it is even more secure today than just a few years ago. Massachusetts cannot get away with treating political spending by organized labor as so sublime that unions can donate $15,000, no questions asked, to a single candidate, while individual donors are held to $1,000 — and businesses are deemed too impure to be allowed to donate one red cent.

Nor can the state justify its green light for union-financed PACs, while it warns businesses against giving anything to a PAC, not even a business name.

"Massachusetts needs extraordinarily good reasons to discriminate against businesses' political speech," the plaintiffs' lawyers contend, "and there is no reason good enough to justify Massachusetts' total ban."

Will Beacon Hill once again dig in its heels and defend an unconstitutional law? Or will it this time defer to the Constitution — and rectify its campaign-finance injustice voluntarily, before it's forced to do so in court?

Vote Democrat or your neighbors will know

Identity Politics: Fool Us Twice, Shame on Us from the files of Lloyd Marcus, The Unhyphenated American

Visit the Lloyd Macus Website
The root cause of the major issues devastating America is Obama – an outgrowth of who he is as a human being, his lack of character, and what he believes.

Listing all of America's woes directly caused by Obama would take up far too much of this article – the flood of infected and unskilled illegals, the spread of ISIS, the devastating fatal consequences of Obamacare, Ebola in the U.S., over 90 million unemployed, the disappearance of the 40-hours-a-week job, our failing economy and more.

Yes, I am going to be a bit tacky. I tried to tell y'all back in 2008 – my black family, white friends and associates – but none of you would listen. I kept thinking, am I the one who is crazy? Will anyone even consider looking beyond his race and taking a good look at Obama, the man?

Instead, you verbally beat me up and called me an Uncle Tom for not going brain-dead with you and making an immoral, racist decision to pull the level for Obama solely because he is black. Well now look atcha.

We have an insidious liar who hates America as founded and a blame-everyone-but-himself narcissist running our country. As our nation crumbles, everyone is running around asking, like in the Marvin Gaye song, “What's goin' on?”
Folks, Obama is what you get when you sell your soul to identity politics, placing surface appearances above character, substance, and properly vetting candidates.
And doggone it, it looks like many Americans are about to be manipulated into making the same stupid mistake again when Hillary Clinton throws her bonnet into the ring, running as the first female presidential candidate.

The MSM will ignore all her scandals and disastrous policy failures. Hillary's gender will be the major qualifier for her to become leader of the free world. Sadly, millions of Americans will go brain-dead and vote for her, suckered again by identity politics.

The same way O.J.'s defense team worked black Americans into a frenzy against white America, causing millions of blacks to rally around Simpson while ignoring the fact that he practically beheaded the mother of his children, Democrats and the MSM will play America's women against America's men.

Come election day, the Democrats and MSM will have low-info voters believing that any man not voting Hillary Clinton for president is obviously a Neanderthal, a wife-beater, an abortion clinic bomber, or a Christian throwback chauvinist who desires to keep women barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen (without a dishwasher).

Rest assured that there will be dudes guilt-ridden for being born with testicles who will become metrosexual brain-dead zombies and vote for Hillary to prove they are not who the MSM and Dems say they are. It will be just like how a lot of whites voted for Obama to prove they were not racist. Think my gender-guilt prediction is over the top? The left has successfully brainwashed many white kids into feeling guilty for being white.

My fervent prayer is that the number of us “thinking” Americans – who will honestly assess who Hillary is as a person, her character, and the direction she plans to take our country – will outnumber the knuckleheads and low-info voters.

Could anyone have imagined the crazy political times in which we now live in America? To look beyond surface appearances such as gender and skin color and select our leaders based on who they are inside and their vision for our nation is now considered extreme, racist, sexist, and hateful.

And yet, this is where the left's political correctness has taken us in America today.

Despite six years of Democratic Party and MSM slander, lies, and spin, at the heart of the Tea Party are decent, patriotic Americans who seek to elect honest, character-driven candidates who will place the best interest of our country and the American people above personal gain and secret agendas.

I have been screaming this for years, folks. Character does matter!

My favorite teller at my bank is a middle-aged Hispanic immigrant. She and her husband came to America over 20 years ago and love this country. The other day, she expressed her sadness and frustration with the direction our country is going, with low-info voters and political corruption.

The bank teller said her son was doing very well in a local school for special-needs kids. For political agenda reasons, the state closed down the affordable school. Her options for educating her special-needs son are now priced through the roof.

I told her that the most disturbing and eye-opening reality I have learned since getting involved, traveling the country working to elect conservatives (as chairman of the Conservative Campaign Committee), is that far too many politicians have agendas other than the best interest of We the People.

Call me corny. Call me naïve for expecting otherwise.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that during my travels, campaigning across America, I have been blessed to have crossed paths with real deal honorable conservative candidates: Joe Carr, Chris McDaniel, Ken Cuccinelli, and Joe Miller, to name a few. These are the good guys, folks.

Patriots, we must do everything in our power to educate low-info voters so they will not be played again by political correctness, conned by Democrats and the MSM into voting identity politics over character and substance.

I have faith that America is strong enough to recover after enduring eight years of a far-left radical empty black suit in the Oval Office. I am less confident in our ability to restore our great nation back to the vision of our Founding Fathers after several years of a leftist empty dress at the helm.

Democrats: America's Party of Resident Evil

Democratic Party: America's Resident Evil from the file of Lloyd Marcus at the Conservative Campaign Committee

Meet Mr. Lloyd Marcus - The Unhyphenated American
A New York Times article exposed that the Democrats are expecting to have their clocks cleaned in the election in a week or so. Democrats believe that their only hope is to get out the black vote.

How do they plan to achieve this? Of course, with their tried and true tactic of race baiting.

In other words, the Democrats and their MSM operatives have launched an all hands on deck deplorable effort to convince black Americans that white Americans are out to suppress and even murder them. Democrats pray that hordes of enraged blacks will forget about how they have suffered under Obama and flock to the polls to vote for Democrats.

In my opinion as a Christian, the Democrats' hate-whitey-get-out-the-black-vote scheme is a satanic plot conceived by deviant minds. Folks, words can not express my visceral disdain for such shameful politicking. Any media personality or outlet that signs on to the Democrats' unconscionable plan should be shunned, unworthy of your respect or time.

Admittedly, it appears that I am constantly writing about the Democrats' attempts to sic black America on white America, especially at election time. Folks, it is because I find the Democrats' behavior so reprehensibly evil, all the while claiming the moral high ground of possessing superior levels of tolerance and compassion. Borrowing an expression from the kids, “Gag me!”

Equally revolting is the mainstream media's complicit behavior, assisting the Democrats in their spreading of filth.

So, here is their game plan. Ferguson is ground zero for the Democrats' Operation Hate Whitey get out the black vote campaign.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, new evidence reveals that Michael Brown did not have his hands up in an attempt to surrender as relentlessly promoted by the Left. Brown's blood was found inside Officer Wilson's police car, confirming that Brown did attack the police officer.

Now folks, here is what is so insidiously evil about what the Democrats are doing. The truth and facts do not matter to the Democrats. They are still fully committed to selling the lie to black America that Michael Brown was an innocent “gentle giant” black youth murdered by a white racist police officer. To get deceived black voters to the polls, a Democrat flier says, “If you want to prevent another Ferguson ...” Totally disgusting.

Ponder that for a moment folks. Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. along with other heroes, black and white, fought, suffered and died to bring us together as a nation via mutual respect and equal opportunity. And, what are these deplorable scumbags in the Democratic Party doing? They are ripping us apart to win elections.

All that these divisive evil demons disguised as Democrat politicians and their MSM sycophantic minions only care about is infecting blacks with a victim mindset, which keeps blacks dependent on government, which keeps Democrats fat and happy with power.

I flew to Washington DC the other day for a national press conference launching “Restore the Dream 2014”. I was honored to be included in a coalition of black conservative leaders that will reach-out, touring the black community.

We will be sharing the good news of Conservatism to those who have been deceived by Democrats and suffering under Liberalism for decades.

Leading the charge is Niger Innis, the son of civil rights icon Roy Innis and Alveda King, the niece of Dr Martin L. King, Jr. Our coalition includes Star Parker and others. A great team!

And guess who also attended our press conference at the MLK Memorial to let the world know that they have our backs? The answer is Tea Party.net and Tea Party Express. But, how can that be?

Haven't you been told that the Tea Party movement is all about white racist redneck's disdain for a black president, their ranks filled with hate-filled extremists who want to see blacks hung from trees?

Yet, another politically calculated hideous lie perpetrated by Democrats and their collaborators in the mainstream media.

I am not exaggerating folks. A member of the Congressional Black Caucus actually said that the Tea Party wants to see blacks hanging from a tree. Folks, how much longer will we tolerance these vile disgusting people ginning up, promoting and propagating racial hate? I am soooo sick of the we-must-give-them-a-pass-because-they-are-black crap. Enough, my fellow Americans, enough!

So yes, I have signed on to the “Restore the Dream” tour which will continue at least through the 2016 election.

Somebody needs to push back against the evil lowlife filth that is spewing out of the Democratic Party.

Folks, my dream is to see my fellow black Americans standing tall, filled with the dignity and pride which comes only via personal achievement. I want to see blacks proud to be Americans, acknowledging the truth that they are extremely blessed to be born in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet for all who choose to go for it.

I want to see black's and white's natural instincts to get along grow freely, unimpeded by Democratic Party hate mongering.

And for this, myself, along with other black conservatives are despised, hated and called traitors to our race.

But that is okay. We are strong, armed with the shield of faith, motivated by love and prepared by God for such a time as this.

Please help us Restore the Dream folks.

Liberal media: An obsession with Palin

The Liberal Media Obsession with Sarah Palin from the files of Jeff Crouere at WLAE-TV 32 in New Orleans, Louisiana

Meet Sarah Palin - A Media Obsession
Since she burst on the national scene in 2008, the national media has enjoyed poking fun and mischaracterizing former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her family. The main reason for their obsession is that Palin is an unabashed conservative who is articulate and popular with millions of Americans.

From the reporting about her supposed shopping spree during the 2008 race for Vice President to the continuing rumors about her marriage, the media has been unrelenting in their attention and almost universally negative coverage.

The media narrative is that the former Alaska Governor is a dumb conservative woman with lots of kids who lives in the remote wilderness. They claim she has succeeded because of her good looks and persuasiveness, forgetting that the real reason for her success is her courage.

Sarah Palin is able to withstand assaults from Democrats, the media and her own party. Many times she is on an ideological island fighting all sides, but not backing down because she stands firm on principle.

If Palin is such a dimwit, why is she such a successful author, speaker and media commentator who has earned millions of dollars? She is in demand across the country because of her message and her sincerity. She really believes in constitutional principles and conservative solutions to the problems our country faces today. Her commentaries reflect her true beliefs, not a sordid public relations gimmick.

Because of her genuineness, the media hates Palin and is on a relentless mission to destroy her and her family. The latest case of media harassment concerns an incident that occurred at a private party in Alaska. At the event, there was a fight involving members of the Palin family.

Much of the media coverage of the party has revolved around Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol. In reality, she was attacked at the party as were other members of the Palin family. Incredibly, this was a cause for amusement for members of the media such as Carol Costello of CNN, who referred to the police recording of the incident as the “best minute and a half of audio we’ve ever come across.”

What was so special about the audio? It featured Bristol Palin describing her sister being pushed and thereafter “some guy” pushing her down and dragging her “across the grass.” Eventually, Bristol was pushed down again, and her $300 sunglasses and shoes were stolen.

According to Costello, it is just hilarious that a young mother was attacked at a party! Even the liberal hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski admitted that they were guilty of treating the event as a humorous incident. According to Brzezinski, “the more we’ve learned about what happened, it’s clearer that it’s not that funny.”

Not only is it not funny, it is sad that the Palin family was probably targeted because of the media ridicule they have received for the past six years. Even Scarborough admitted that “there is the very real possibility that something terrible happened to them.”

What is even worse than being attacked at a party is the constant media bias that the Palin family endures. The unceasing hatred toward the Palin family is reflected in their negative media coverage.

As Bristol Palin noted on her blog, “Imagine for a second the outrage that would happen if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pushed by some guy. Had she tried to defend herself, the liberal media would’ve held her up as some feminist hero."

In this case, Bristol Palin was the hero who defended her sister and the villains were the jerks who pushed her and the members of the media, like Carol Costello, who wear their liberal bias as a badge of honor.

Voter Frustration: A Republican Victory or Defeat

Will Voter Frustration Lead to Republican Victory or Defeat? from the files of J.B. Williams at the North American Law Center.org

Chairperson of the Democratic Party
All recent polling data confirms that over 70% of the people believe that Obama and Democrats are leading the nation in the wrong direction, many of them believing that they are leading the country right off a cliff.

So, defeating Obama’s Democrats should be a walk in the park with over 70% looking to make a change in the mid-terms. However, it may not be quite that simple.

The Money in 2014

Democrats are raising and spending six-times as much as their political opponents for 2014. Take a good look at just the Top 20 super-PACs, which shouldn’t even exist according to McCain-Feingold.

This is just the Top 20 super-PACs…. And there are hundreds of PACs today. The ratio weighted heavily on the side of Obama Democrats remains however.

United they will Win

Actions will determine the outcome of the 2014 elections, not words, or wishes, or opinions or even money. The outcome of this election will impact the direction of our country after, in numerous critical ways.

Politics is a team sport. The best trained and most unified team will win.

In the past and even today, 30% of the people have been running roughshod over the other 70%... Not because they have a better plan for America, or because they are better funded, although they are much better funded.

They have been successful because they are 100% united in their efforts and they are 100% committed to forever “changing America.” Unfortunately, they are committed to making America something it never has been and never should be.

Divided, the pro-American “right” will continue to lose to the anti-American “left.”

Despite knowing that “divided we will fall,” some still fall for a plethora of initiative aimed at further dividing the political “right.”

Yet, the outcome of such advice is already well known… If every pro-American voter stays home or breaks ranks to a 3rd party candidate not actually in the running, the future of the entire nation is once again left in the hands of the anti-American “left” by default.

We simply cannot allow that to happen again in 2014.

To win, we must Unite

American conservatives need to choose their bedfellows much more carefully. Yes, every American conservative has a right and plenty of reasons to be angry with today’s spineless Republicans and their Republican National Committee, which seems to have at least a dozen ways to lose an election and even a country.

Yes, they are right to be fed up with current Republican leadership. No point in listing all of the valid reasons for that anger. However, what to do about it is very important…

Example:

The house is on fire and you have three options available. What do you do?
1. Cast a vote to throw gasoline on the fire (vote Democrat)
2. Cast a vote to get a fire hose (vote Republican)
3. Cast a vote for an ice cream cone (sit it out, or vote 3rd party)
Most “conservatives” know that the only viable option is to vote for a fire hose and hope for the best. All who never pass up an opportunity to vote themselves gifts from your wallet will cast a vote to throw gasoline on the fire, by voting Democrat.

But those who hate both political parties equally, because they hate our two-party Constitutional Republican system of self-governance, are telling all “conservatives” to vote for an ice cream cone, either because “your vote doesn’t matter,” or because “there’s no difference between Democrats and Republicans,” or because “we need a multi-party parliamentary system,” or because “Ron Paul was not allowed to win in 2012.”

These folks do not divide the “left” vote, they only divide the “right” vote and by so doing, their opposition to their so-called “lesser evil” guarantees a victory for the greatest evil of all.

Damned if We Do, and Damned if We Don'’t

To say that pro-American voters are between a rock and a hard place here is an understatement. But to say that it doesn’t matter what we do (or don’t do) is a lie. It’s not true…

“Evil prevails whenever good people do nothing” – which means that doing nothing, or staying home on Election Day is not an option. All good people must vote on November 4th, are they are “doing nothing” to confront evil in America.

We know from experience that we are indeed “damned if we don’t.”

But until we do, we do not yet know if we are also “damned if we do.”

Democrats controlled both chambers of congress when Obama seized the White House in 2009. It wasn’t until the 2010 elections and the 112th Congress beginning in 2011, that Republicans had control of the House. From 2011 to today, Democrats have continued to retain control of the Senate. So, we do not yet know what might be accomplished if Republicans had control of both chambers during the remainder of the Obama administration.

What we do know is this…

Until Republicans control both chambers of congress, the Senate will continue to be a blind rubber stamp for Obama and the two chambers will remain mostly in gridlock legislatively.

Only after “we the people” place both congressional chambers in the hands of Republicans can we hold all Republicans 100% accountable for what happens next.

The 2014 elections present an opportunity for all pro-American voters to strip Obama of all congressional support. This could mean a lot of things after the election, everything from Impeachment of the most impeachable administration in U.S. history to the reversal of ObamaCare and an end to defacto or any other form of amnesty for millions of illegal invaders.

Further, there are a number of critical governor races up for grabs, and if we want the 10th Amendment to mean anything looking forward, we cannot allow any more states to fall into the hands of Democrats.

In the end, righteous voter frustration with Republicans cannot cause a national suicide in the 2014 elections. We must use every tool in the box to move this country in the right direction.

It took global leftists a hundred year sustained effort to hijack and destroy America. We will not end that threat in any one election cycle. But we can begin the process in this election, by uniting and fighting the most dangerous evil to ever grip our nation’s government.

And we must!

Curbing President Obama's power grabs

Curbing Obama power grabs from the files of Paul Driessen at CFACT.org

The courts and Senate provide no checks and balances. Could a Republican Senate help?

There's That 'Hope and Change' Stuff Again
You’ve got to admire the sheer audacity: Democratic Senator Mark Begich telling Alaska voters that he stood up to President Obama and fought for oil drilling and jobs in his state. Maybe he had a few chats.

But he certainly knew his concerns and opinions meant nothing, changed nothing, accomplished nothing. And then he voted 97% of the time with Mr. Obama and Senate Majority Dictator Harry Reid

Reid has kept over 300 bills bottled up, squelched almost all proffered Republican amendments on anything that did move, and used the “nuclear option” to end the longstanding 60-vote rule and wipe out any chance that Republicans could block Obama nominees or prevent the President from packing the vital DC Circuit Court of Appeals.

The three new liberal judges on that court can now be counted on to defer to Mr. Obama’s policies and “agency discretion” on future arrogations of power.

Ditto for Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu. She bellyached from time to time about offshore drilling and the Keystone XL pipeline. But she also voted with Obama, Reid and their agenda 97% of the time, on everything from ObamaCare to Dodd-Frank to packing the DC Court.

The tally for other Democratic Senators running for reelection is revealing:
  • Hagan (NC) 96% for the Obama agenda, policies and fiats
  • Merkley (OR) 96%
  • Pryor (AR) 90%
  • Shaheen (NH) 99%
  • Udall (CO) 99%
  • Warner (VA) 97%
Now they’re telling their constituents, next year will be different. Send me back to Washington, and next year I will stand up to Obama and support letting people keep their doctors and insurance, allowing more domestic drilling and pipelines, promoting economic recovery and fiscal responsibility, curbing the fraud and abuses at the Environmental Protection Agency, tackling Ebola and going after Islamic terrorists.

The IRS, Benghazi, Ebola and Middle East screw-ups and cover-ups seem to have set the tone. These Senators seem willing to say almost anything to get them past the elections. However, their votes have had real consequences for millions of Americans, especially the poor, minority, elderly and working classes they profess to care so much about. They should not escape accountability so easily.

A recent political ad by black Democrat-turned-Republican Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory lays it on the line. “While you dig through the couch looking for gas money,” Guillory says, Mary Landrieu “flies around in private jets funded by taxpayer dollars.” To her, “you are just a vote,” every six years.

Nor do liberal stereotypes fit. The four Democratic House and Senate candidates in Northern Virginia are all well-off, middle-age white guys. Republican candidates include one middle-age white dude, plus two working moms and a black man – who’s also Jewish and an 8-year Marine Corps veteran.

Few of us have any personal animosity toward any of these Democrat Senators. They’re all amiable people. But as President Obama himself says, “my policies are on the ballot, every single one of them.” Those policies have been dragging this country down, and as long as Harry Reid maintains his iron grip on the Senate, there can be no checks and balances or budgetary constraints on the Obama policies.

Messrs. Reid and Obama have made it clear that they have no interest in working with Republicans. Indeed, the President prefers Saul Alinsky tactics of community agitation and interest group divide-and-conquer. He disdains democratic processes and bipartisan compromises, and much prefers to simply legislate, regulate and dictate from the White House and Executive Branch – ignoring or rewriting the clear language of laws and our Constitution whenever and however necessary.

The Train of Abuses and Usurpations gets longer by the week. Environmental Protection Agency actions alone could place virtually all our land, air, water, energy and economy under the control of regulatory ideologues, working closely with radical Big Green activists, billionaires and “charitable” foundations.

Climate. As the planet refuses to cooperate with computer models and White House fear mongering, the EPA simply ignores all contradictory studies and evidence – and continues to operate under assumptions that:
  • Carbon dioxide levels dictate climate change; natural forces are irrelevant’ America can easily replace the fossil fuels that provide 82% of its energy
  • Skyrocketing energy prices will have no effect on the economy, jobs or human health and welfare
  • Slashing America’s CO2 emissions will make a difference, even though China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Poland and other nations refuse to do likewise.
Of course, the real goal was never to stop climate change. It was always to control and “fundamentally transform” our nation’s energy, economic, social and legal structure and institutions, regardless of costs.

Water. Proposed rules are so broadly written that they would cover nearly all “waters of the United States” (WOTUS), based on assertions that they would eventually end up in “navigable” waters: rivers, rivulets, lakes, groundwater, stock ponds, occasional puddles and dry creek beds. In the process, they would also control land use activities on farms, forests and other private property. Friendly, collusive lawsuits by radical environmentalists would further expand this EPA jurisdiction.

Ozone. Almost every US county meets current 2008 ozone standards. Proposed regulations would render the vast majority of them “nonattainment” areas, subject to severe restrictions on economic growth. Even EPA says the rules would cost $100 billion a year. The National Association of Manufacturers puts the cost at $270 billion annually. The impact on people’s jobs, incomes, health and welfare would be huge.

Even bigger ambitions. Clearly not satisfied with these unprecedented usurpations of power, EPA has also launched major “sustainable development,” “environmental justice” and “clean power” initiatives. These deliberately vague and infinitely malleable terms would further expand the agency’s mission far beyond anything previously imaginable or contemplated by EPA’s authorizing legislation.

Other agencies are busily writing new regulations governing Christmas lights, automobile and refrigerator coolants, endangered species guidelines that would block ranching, drilling and pipeline projects, while giving bird and bat-killing wind and solar projects carte blanche – and other activities.

Collusion. A recent Senate Minority Staff Report explains in frightening detail how far-left billionaires, foundations and environmentalist groups actively collude with EPA managers and regulators. EPA in turn happily recruits high-level eco-activists, who then help lobby, guide and control agency policies – and channel millions of taxpayer dollars to pressure groups that promote those policies. The agency also engages in frequent friendly lawsuits with activists, to make policies even more extreme.

A Republican Senate will not guarantee the kind of change needed to end these excesses and get the nation’s economy and employment back on track, especially if certain GOP members remain timid or recalcitrant. (Perhaps DePuy or Stryker could donate some spinal implants?) Presidential vetoes could also pose problems, although strong leadership could often craft bipartisan veto-proof majorities.

House and Senate hearings could grill agency heads under oath – and investigate potential fraud in developing regulations, unethical collusion between agencies and activists, improper agency funding of activist groups, sweetheart lawsuits and other activities. These investigations could form the basis for budget reductions and restrictions, legislation to end mission creep or block specific regulations, and laws requiring congressional approval of “major” regulatory actions costing billions of dollars.

Such actions would also help restore our tripartite system of government. Right now, the Executive Branch is riding roughshod over businesses and citizens alike, and the courts merely rubber stamp agency decisions.

Meanwhile, the Legislative Branch is little more than an appendix that writes overly broad laws giving unaccountable bureaucrats unfettered discretion to impose an increasingly intrusive, expensive leftist, centralized government agenda. No wonder our nation is foundering on the rocks.

The upcoming elections could help get the USS United States back on course. Let’s hope they do.

Democratic Voting Bloc-Heads

Democratic Voting Bloc-Heads from Warning Signs by Alan Caruba at Facts-not-Fantasy

Stay Aware of Caruba's Warning Signs

As this is being written, Rasmussen Reports says that 48% of likely voters approve of President Obama’s performance in office while 50% disapproved. Other polls indicate far more unhappiness with Obama, but in general one must conclude that half the voters are idiots. He is an enormous failure domestically and with his foreign relations.

In early July, a Quinnipiac University national poll found that Obama was regarded as “the worst president since World War II.” The only poll that counts will be the midterm elections on November 4th.

We know that Republicans and a significant percentage of independent voters will pull the lever for the change needed to save the nation from Congressional gridlock and whatever further mischief and idiocy Obama will seek to impose, but what do we know about the Democratic Party’s voting blocs? They say a lot about America today.

A website called Debt.org, offers a look at the “Economic Demographics of Democrats.” It offered the following conclusions:

  • Generally, Democrats live closer to a coast—East or West—living more in cities than Republicans.
  • Populated areas have a higher concentration of minorities who “overwhelmingly vote Democrat.”
  • They tend to have more women in their ranks than Republicans and this is true as well of gays and lesbians.
  • They support organized labor, unions, more.
  • They are slightly younger than Republicans and “increasingly less religious.”

After years have telling Americans that Republicans are engaged in “a war on women” it should not come as a surprise that 37% of women are Democrats while Republicans have 24%. Unmarried women vote Democrat about 62% of the time, while married women tend to split between the parties.

What may well save the nation from the split between the two political parties is the fact that 43% declare themselves to be politically independent.

Economically, people earning less than $15,000 a year represent 31% of Democrat voters. Those earning $50,000 or more vote Republican or independent. The average median household income in the U.S. is $49,777, right near the point where the Democratic advantage in numbers disappears.

While the President and the Democratic Party are forever complaining about the inequality of the wealthy while endlessly taking their money for campaigns, a review of the twenty richest Americans as listed by Forbes magazine found that 60% affiliate with the Democratic Party!

Would it surprise anyone to learn that Republicans are better educated than Democrats? Or that Democrats tend to be slightly younger, with an average age of 47. This voting bloc, 46 million, is anticipated of increase to 90 million in 2020.

Racially and ethnically, Republicans are 87% white as compared to Democratic supporters.

African Americans mindlessly vote Democratic and are literally taken for granted by the party though an Oct 18 New York Times article reported that a confidential memo from a former pollster for President Obama “contained a blunt warning for Democrats.

Written this month with an eye toward Election Day, it predicted ‘crushing Democratic losses across the country’ if the party did not do more to get black voters to the polls.” He said, “In fact, over half aren’t even sure when the midterm elections are taking place.” That’s the kind of voter the Democratic Party has relied upon for years.

Jews as well give 80% of their votes to Democrats. Hispanics are the fastest growing group of voters and also tend to support Democrats, voting for them 60% to 70% of the time. They constitute 16% of the population and are expected to nearly double by 2050.

Observers of politics at this point note that Democrats are stepping up an aggressive push to woo single women, regarding of their age, level of education, or earning power, but they also note that many single women do not vote, especially in non-presidential election years like this one.

The result is that older, white and more conservative women will vote more. One analyst, Jackie Calmes, notes that, according to the nonpartisan Voter Participation Center, in the 2012 presidential election, 58% of single women voted, but is predicting that will slide to 39%.

In an American Thinker.com September commentary, Chad Stafko, wrote that “The African-American voting block has become powerless and irrelevant due to its decades-old blind allegiance to the Democratic Party and the growing likelihood (is) that the group will soon be eclipsed in size by the Hispanic voting bloc.”

The judgment of this bloc is best seen in the fact that African Americans have voted for Democrats for years to serve as mayors in “what are now some of the most economically-challenged cities in America.” Despite having voted for Obama at a rate of 93%, they have “received the brunt of the effects of the Obama-led stagnant economy.”

While there is much talk of the growing Hispanic bloc, but many are ineligible to vote and those that are often do not or are concentrated in noncompetitive districts and states. One observer, Nate Cohn, noted that “Hispanic voters will represent a tiny fraction of the electorate in the states and districts critical to the battle for control of Congress.”

Currently that represent about 17% of the U.S. population and a quarter of them are under age 18 and cannot vote. Only 69% of adult Hispanics are citizens as compared with 96% of adult-non-Hispanics.

In general, Democrats may have numbers, but those voters are just as likely to skip the upcoming midterm elections. When you add in concerns about Ebola and the economy, there’s even more reason to believe they are less motivated to vote. In contrast, Republicans and a large segment of independent voters are far more motivated.

The Democratic Party depends on voting blocs of less educated, less wealthy, more knee-jerk voters than the Republican Party, and thanks to a liberal news media the GOP has problems getting out its message and responding to the lies the Democratic Party incessantly repeat.

Even so, political pundits are predicting that the midterm elections will sweep Democrats from office and defeat their candidates. That’s the good news.

A logic gap on the 'gender gap'

A Logic Gap on the 'Gender Gap' from the files of Jeff Jacoby at the Boston Globe

Read the Jacoby Files at the Boston Globe
Are you voting for Charlie Baker for governor, sweetheart? He's been trying hard to win your support, in part through the familiar technique of highlighting those who support him already.

For if there's one thing the Republican gubernatorial candidate wants you to know, it's that plenty of women do indeed support him.

There is a "Women for Charlie" Facebook page and a "Women for Charlie" photo gallery. There was a "Women for Charlie" reception in West Roxbury last night, and a "Women for Charlie" fundraiser in the South End last month.

"Women for Charlie" phone banks organize call centers every Wednesday night.

There was even a recent drawing for "a basket of W4C goodies," complete with "Women for Charlie" T-shirts and earrings. Needless to say, there is a "Women for Charlie" link atop every page of the Baker campaign website.

All of which makes good sense — assuming you believe that biology is political destiny, and that a candidate who loses the women's vote loses the election.

But biology isn't destiny, and it's patronizing or cynical to act as if it were. Candidates win elections all the time without winning a majority of women. Even Republican candidates. Even in Massachusetts.

For decades, pundits and politicos have harped on the "gender gap" in American politics, which is widely understood to mean that Republicans are crippled on Election Day by their lack of appeal to women. It is true enough that women (especially unmarried women) are more likely to vote for Democrats.

But it's also true that men are more likely to vote for Republicans — a counter-gap that has spelled defeat for any number of Democratic hopefuls. At the presidential level, Democratic candidates have attracted more women's votes than their GOP opponents in each election since 1980, yet Republicans have won the White House in five of those nine races

The gender gap hasn't been fatal to GOP hopes at the state level, either.

"In every governor's race of the 1990s, the male vote for the Republican candidate exceeded the female vote for the Democratic candidate, thus producing a net GOP advantage," wrote Elaine Kamarck, a former senior staffer in the Clinton White House, in a 2003 CommonWealth magazine analysis of Massachusetts politics.

A Boston Globe story in September on how Baker and Martha Coakley are waging a "war for women's votes this fall" was accompanied by a bar graph that usefully broke down the vote by candidate and gender in six hard-fought marquee Massachusetts races since 1998. In four of those statewide races, the candidate who won more men's votes won the election — and three of the four were Republicans.

Only twice did a Democrat win without a majority of male voters: when Governor Deval Patrick turned back Baker's challenge in 2010, and when Elizabeth Warren successfully ousted Senator Scott Brown in 2012.

So why the obsessive focus on the GOP's need to do better among women? If the goal is to win elections, Republicans would presumably do just as well to play to their strength, concentrating on boosting their share of men's votes even higher.

Alternatively, Democrats should be fretting about their man problem at least as much as the other team keeps agonizing over its woman problem. Where is the "Men for Martha" Facebook page? Why isn't the attorney general grabbing every opportunity to explain why a Coakley administration will be a boon for Massachusetts men?

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley
campaigning with former President Bill Clinton during
a rally at Clark University in Worcester.
Barbara Anderson, the intrepid director of Citizens for Limited Taxation and a battle-scarred veteran of Massachusetts politics going back to the fight for Proposition 2½, strongly backs Baker for governor. But she refused to attend a recent "Women for Charlie" event, she writes in the Salem News, "because I don't do events that begin 'Women for' anyone."

Anderson doesn't want politicians to see her first and foremost as a member of her sex, or to be pandered to on that account.

Why would anyone? She and Coakley agree on nothing and have little in common "other than the reproductive system," Anderson writes. "So why would political consultants assume other women would support either one of us as if we were interchangeable?"

Exactly right. The gender gap is real, and it's likely to be a feature of American politics for years to come. It is one of many discrepancies that make the sexes interesting, maddening, or perplexing to each other.

But it is only a tendency, not even a rule of thumb. Plenty of women vote Republican; plenty of men vote Democratic. There are far stronger influences on voting choices than the presence or absence of a 'Y' chromosome — political ideology, religion, and marital status, to name just three.

Your gender is a silly reason to vote for any candidate. It's an even worse reason for any candidate to ask for your vote.

Radical revealed: Hillary and Saul Alinsky

The radical revealed: Hillary's deep connection with Saul Alinsky from the files of Colonel Allen B. West

How Well Do You Know Hillary?
I went to Chicago a couple of times over the summer — beautiful city and what an awesome waterfront along Lake Michigan. However, I just have to laugh when I think of the level of radicalism and corruption in Chicago politics.

Here is the lineup of famous Chicago residents: Saul Alinksy, Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod, Valerie Jarrett, Jesse Jackson Sr. and Jr. (the latter being a federal prison resident), Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayres, Tony Rezko, Louis Farrakhan, David Plouffe, and of course Al Capone.

Now combine that with the number of incarcerated former politicians and the fact that in June of this year, the Communist Party of the United States held its 30th convention in Chicago.

Heck, the college football team pushing for a collective bargaining for players is Northwestern University located where? Evanston, a suburb of Chicago.

So therefore, it actually should come as no surprise to find out Hillary Clinton and famed leftist community organizer, Saul Alinsky, exchanged correspondence. (For reference, Alinsky’s infamous book, Rules for Radicals, is dedicated to Lucifer — and those pesky secular humanists get upset at U.S. Marines singing at a Christian worship service).

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, “Previously unpublished correspondence between Hillary Clinton and the late left-wing organizer Saul Alinsky reveals new details about her relationship with the controversial Chicago activist and shed light on her early ideological development.

Clinton met with Alinsky several times in 1968 while writing a Wellesley college thesis about his theory of community organizing. Clinton’s relationship with Alinsky, and her support for his philosophy, continued for several years after she entered Yale law school in 1969, two letters obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show.

The Hillary Letters - Click Here

The last thing America needs is another left wing ideologue espousing progressive socialist policies. The problem for Hillary Clinton is that she’s tried very hard to hide her radicalism – as a matter of fact, she’s doing everything possible right now to distance herself from ol’ brother Barack. However, she’s not trusted by the progressive Left or the rest of America either.

We all know Hillary Clinton as a shrewd deceptive operator, not personable and willing to tell a lie at the drop of a hat. Plus, the Clintons have more scandals following them than the days are long — hmm, sounds like a familiar tune of the past six years. After all, they were all spawned from the same corrupt social organizing political machine. They’re just serious rivals.

Free Beacon reports the letters it obtained “are part of the archives for the Industrial Areas Foundation, a training center for community organizers founded by Alinsky, which are housed at the University of Texas at Austin. On July 8, 1971, Clinton reached out to Alinsky, then 62, in a letter sent via airmail, paid for with stamps featuring Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and marked “Personal.” “Dear Saul,” she began.

“When is that new book [Rules for Radicals] coming out—or has it come and I somehow missed the fulfillment of Revelation?” “I have just had my one-thousandth conversation about Reveille [for Radicals] and need some new material to throw at people,” she added, a reference to Alinsky’s 1946 book on his theories of community organizing. In the 1971 letter, Clinton assured Alinsky that she had “survived law school, slightly bruised, with my belief in and zest for organizing intact.”

“A self-proclaimed radical, Alinsky advocated guerilla tactics and civil disobedience (SEIU, Occupy Wall Street, ACORN) to correct what he saw as an institutionalized power gap in poor communities. His philosophy divided the world into “haves”—middle class and wealthy people —and “have nots”—the poor.

He took an ends-justify-the-means approach to power and wealth redistribution, and developed the theoretical basis of “community organizing.”

“The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power,” wrote Alinsky in his 1971 book. “Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.”

So does Hillary Clinton — indeed the progressive socialist Left — really give a doggone about middle income America? Trust me they don’t. You’re the bourgeoisie against which the proletariat must struggle and ultimately overthrow.

If you haven’t read Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals you should. It’s the progressive socialist aka Democrat Party blueprint. And what Alinsky believed in was anathema to that of the fundamental principles and values of America — a Constitutional Republic. His message was easily an American communist manifesto of sorts.

The Free Beacon says, “according to the letter, Clinton and Alinsky had kept in touch since she entered Yale. The 62-year-old radical had reached out to give her advice on campus activism. “The more I’ve seen of places like Yale Law School and the people who haunt them, the more convinced I am that we have the serious business and joy of much work ahead—if the commitment to a free and open society is ever going to mean more than eloquence and frustration,” wrote Clinton.”

There’s a saying down South the ol’ folks use — people will know you by the company you keep — Something we dismissed when it came to Barack Hussein Obama’s radical BFFs.

The Beacon says “Clinton’s connection to Alinsky has been the subject of speculation for decades. It became controversial when Wellsley College, by request of the Clinton White House, sealed her 1968 thesis from the public for years.

Conservative lawyer Barbara Olson said Clinton had asked for the thesis to be sealed — sounds familiar huh — because it showed “the extent to which she internalized and assimilated the beliefs and methods of Saul Alinsky.”

Clinton opponent turned Clinton defender David Brock (George Soros’ Media Matters honcho) referred to her as “Alinsky’s daughter” in 1996′s The Seduction of Hillary Rodham.”

It’s absolutely hilarious how the Left went after Mitt Romney for supposedly “bullying” some kid back in high school or something. They went after him for having a dog ride on the car roof.

However, here we go with the ideological cancer that festers in Chicago, and I can bet not a single leftist progressive media outlet is covering this story — check out how they stayed silent about the Federal government exonerating New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in the “Bridgegate” scandal.

No more radicals from Chicago — hmm, I bet Elizabeth “Pochahontas” Warren or Julian “La Raza” Castro probably also have ties to Chicago. I bet if Chicago got rid of all those left wing progressive socialist radicals, the Chicago Cubs would end up winning a World Series!

The two-party system is killing America

The two-party system is killing America from the files of Armstrong Williams at the Washington Times

Meet Armstrong Williams
The tale of Ferguson, Missouri, is in many respects the tale of two cities. One half is white, overwhelmingly Republican and conservative; the other half is black, overwhelmingly Democratic, and at least nominally liberal.

In a perfect world, such a community would never come into such stark and intense opposition. An ideal political process would have mediated those differences long before their anger engulfed them. Perhaps the zero-sum game of partisanship followed by gridlock is the best the two-party system has to offer at this point, but as a society we deserve much, much better.

On the black side of the Ferguson divide you have a triumph of symbolism over substance. Record turnout of black voters in presidential elections enabled Democrats to achieve stunning victories but in congressional races, Democrats have consistently lost ground to a focused, organized grass-roots conservative movement.

Hoping for change, many Democratic voters got more of the same, only less of it. Here’s why:
The Democratic establishment promised less than one would think given its 2008 and 2012 victories, and it was able to deliver even less than what it promised because of the rightward drift in the Congress.
Say what you may about the tea party’s ideology and tactics, one thing is for sure:
It has gotten the attention of the establishment. No longer can establishment Republicans get away with ignoring the interests of a significant part of their constituency. Not so the Democrats.
On the Democratic side, while the party has been more cohesive, it has been less accountable to its electorate. While taking for granted significant parts of its electorate, in particular the black vote, Democrats have failed to even address, much less alleviate the ills facing the community:
Chronic unemployment, poor education, epidemic levels of incarceration.
At the root of this problem is the winner-take-all two-party system. We have gotten to the point where the nation is too large and complex and diverse to be encompassed within such a framework. Party loyalty has had especially diminishing returns for black Americans.

You look at a situation like Ferguson, where a large Democratic majority is stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no jobs and bleak future prospects. Sure, they voted for President Obama in record numbers, and have been Democratic Party stalwarts for the past 50 years or so. But where has it got them?

Democrats would argue that they have been able to pass civil rights legislation and social safety-net measures that have disproportionately benefited the black community. Some of that was true during the height of the civil rights era and the debut of Great Society programs.

But a casual look at the community today reveals a somewhat desolate landscape and an eroding social safety net. Democrats have not leveled with their electorate to help them understand that the government is essentially bankrupt and cannot afford an expanding set of entitlements amid crushing debt and declining American labor competitiveness.

The problem with the two-party system is that you have to keep the bath water in order to save the baby. And of course, the dirty water ends up harming the baby in the long run. One wonders whether it would be possible for blacks to really get what they need at this stage — jobs and economic empowerment — without sacrificing too much in the way of Democrats’ overregulation and overspending, both of which have had a stifling effect on job creation and American competitiveness.

If blacks or any other group broke away from the Democratic Party and formed an activist pressure group like the tea party, the question is whether they would push the party to the left or to the right. The calculus may not be so simple. Sure, the Democratic Party has had significant victories on social issues — ranging from same-sex marriage to equal treatment in the military.

But where it counts on economic issues such as wage growth, job creation and pension reform, Democrats have failed to deliver. The business community has been largely successful in doing an end run around organized labor to convince workers that their jobs depend upon the profitability of the company, not on union power. The extent to which a splinter group would be likely to break left is therefore somewhat questionable.

The bottom line is that we are a country of and for the people. We are not state, we are not parties, and we are not districts. Those can be convenient organizing tools, but at the end of the day the power is invested in the people to change themselves.

People should begin to demand more accountability of their elected officials. For too long the choice has been seen as supporting the lesser of two evils.

However the success of the tea party in holding an establishment party accountable should be a lesson learned for the voters irrespective of their political leanings.

Our pathetic president

Our Pathetic President from the Warning Sign files of Alan Caruba at Facts-not-Fantasy

Know the Warning Signs
The first thing you need to keep in mind is that Syria and Iraq are now just lines on a map at this point. They don’t exist as national states because the former is locked in a civil war that will replace its dictator one way or the other and the latter’s alleged government is deeply divided between the usual schism of Sunni and Shiite.

More to the point, Iraq’s government is led by men who are the friends and pawns of Iran. In a recent issue of the Iranian newspaper, Eternad, an Iranian analyst commented on the new Iraqi cabinet noting that its new prime minister “enjoys Iran’s support and spend his formative years in Iran, and continued (the operation of the Islamic al-Dawa party) until the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime.”

That fall was the result of the war waged against Saddam by President George W. Bush. The Iranian analyst noted that Iraq’s new foreign minister, Dr. Ebrahim Jafari “until recently lived in Tehran in Iran, and enjoyed Iran’s support in spite of his differences with Nouri al-Maleki (the former prime minister). The new Iraqi oil minister, transport minister, and minister of sport and youth were all described as “close to Iran, who either lived in Iran before, fought against the Ba’ath regime with Iran’s help, or constantly traveled to Iran.”

Iraq and Syria came into being when French and British diplomats created them as colonies following the end of World War I, the fall of the Ottoman Empire, and the Treaty of Versailles.

In his September 10th speech, President Obama uttered the word “war” only once and then only to say “We will not be dragged into another ground war in Iraq.”

The speech, like everything he says, was a lie constructed to undue the truth he inadvertently admitted when he revealed “We have no strategy.” If you do not intend to go to war, you do not need a strategy. Instead, you can pretend to the American public that the war will be fought by Iraqis and Syrians.

So far the Syrian civil war has cost that “nation” 200,000 lives and driven a million Syrians out of the country. As for the Iraqis, their military fled in the face of the ISIS forces, leaving behind the weapons we gave them. Between Iraq and Syria, ISIS now controls a landmass larger than the size of Great Britain.

In the course of the speech, Obama said he had dispatched 475 more troops to Iraq. We have an estimated 1,500 or more troops on the ground. That is barely the size of an infantry regiment, composed of two battalions of between 300 and 1,300 troops each.

Significantly, though, Obama opened the speech by reminding Americans that he had “brought home 140,000 American troops from Iraq, and drawing down our forces in Afghanistan, where our combat mission will end later this year.”

President Obama has announced he intends to send up to 3,000 troops to West Africa to help combat Ebola. He can find troops to put in harm’s way in Africa, but not to combat ISIS.

All he has ever wanted to do is to flee from our declared enemies whether they are al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS or other Islamic holy warriors. Those numbers signal his failure to follow up our sacrifices in those two nations.

Years after World War II and the Korean War, we still have combat troops in Europe, South Korea, and on bases around the world, but he is pulling out troops in the two nations where our interests are currently threatened. He called the enemy “small groups of killers.” He claimed that “America is safer.”

He appears to think the greatest threat of our time, the holy war being waged by fanatical Muslims, can be won with air strikes and measures that do “not involve American combat troops fighting on foreign soil.”

Fighting on foreign soil is what American combat troops did throughout the last century and into this one. They helped defeat Germany and the Japanese Empire in World War II. They stopped the communist North Korean attack on the South, but had less success in the long Vietnam War. They were successful in the Gulf wars until Obama was elected.

We have a President who has displayed a lack of leadership, a lack of judgment, ignorance of history, a cowardly approach to the threats we face, and who has demonstrated over and over again that he is a liar. His administration is likely to be judged the most corrupt in the history of the nation, indifferent to the Constitution and our laws.

Proclaiming that he “could not be prouder of our men and women in uniform”, this is a President who has engaged in dramatically reducing the size of our military to pre-World War II levels. After a two-star general, Major General Harold J. Green, was killed in Afghanistan in April not one single member of the White House attended his funeral. Obama was playing golf.

America must survive a man who many have come to believe is “the worst President” in our history. An essential stop toward that will be to defeat as many Democratic Party incumbents and candidates for office in the November 4 midterm elections. Americans—patriots—can do no less at this point.
