Shelby committee bill - 2nd amendment protection

Meet Senator Shelby
Alabama's U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS), today announced full committee passage of the Fiscal Year 2017 CJS appropriations bill. This bill maintains existing Second Amendment protections and firearm-related funding, and it does not adopt new restrictive executive actions.

In January, President Obama issued new executive actions related to gun laws that would require funding from Congress, such as hiring 200 new ATF special agents and industry investigators. In keeping with the long-standing policy of the Committee to not introduce new gun policy riders, the Fiscal Year 2017 CJS appropriations bill does not adopt any of the new firearm-related provisions requested by President Obama.

Following full committee passage of the FY 2017 CJS appropriations bill, Senator Shelby released a statement:
“President Obama has accelerated the use of executive fiat to an alarming new level throughout his Administration.
Fortunately, our nation’s Founders created a system of checks and balances to ensure that too much power is not concentrated in one branch of the federal government.
I remain increasingly concerned about the President’s blatant disregard for the Second Amendment, and I will continue to stand up for the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans.”
