How stupid are 'Gun Free Zones'?

One of the definitions of insanity is when you keep doing the same thing time after time even though it never works. Unfortunately this concept never seems to get through to many politicians.

The recent series of shooting and killing of dozens of innocent victims in so called “gun free zones” in numerous schools and other locations makes one wonder at the intelligence and reasoning powers of those who initially passed this kind of legislation and those in the public who continue to support such laws.

It has been perfectly clear all the way back to way before the Aurora, Colorado movie house shooting that passing and enforcing such laws on the establishment of “gun free zones” does nothing more than create a target rich environment for criminals and the mentally ill to kill with little or no likelihood of anyone being able to effectively resist.

Gun free zones are irrational and nuts for several reasons.

First these “gun free zones” place individuals in jeopardy whenever a lawbreaker ignores the law and enters the zone with the intention of taking someones life. Criminals, by their very nature, are people who ignore the law and someone who may be mentally ill.

These criminals are not going to consult the applicable statutes before entering an allegedly “gun free zone”.

By that logic the law seems intended for law abiding citizens, not criminals since it provides zero deterrent to a criminal or nutcase.

Additionally, it requires concealed firearms permit holders to repeatedly remove their firearms and store them elsewhere perhaps in a car, hardly the most secure location with the high incidence of break-ins.

Gun-Free Zones - a friend to the friendless.
