If the death of 20-year-old DeAndre Joshua, shot in the front seat of his car in Ferguson, is found to be retribution because he provided witness testimony in the case against Michael Brown, our society is in grave danger.
We are now being held hostage to the definition of social justice as interpreted by a few who have eschewed democracy, with the help of leftist community organizers who now instill fear, intimidation, coercion, and threat by way of mobocracy.
It was supposed to be the opening of the Christmas season for shoppers, known as “Black Friday” — I guess that’s not racist — but there were those who had another objective. As reported by the UK Daily Mail, “Ferguson protesters have clashed with police across the US after taking to the streets and occupying malls in a day of demonstrations over the shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown.”
“Hundreds of people interrupted holiday shopping at major retailers around the country to protest a grand jury’s decision not to indict the officer who fatally shot the 18-year-old protesters dubbed the day ‘Brown Friday’ or ‘Blackout Black Friday’. In San Francisco crowds used hammers to smash the windows of stores in the city’s touristy Union Square.
Demonstrators temporarily shut down three large malls in suburban St. Louis on one of the busiest shopping days of the year and then marched in front of the Ferguson police department. The action prompted authorities to close the mall for about an hour Friday afternoon, while a similar protest of about 50 people had the same effect at West County Mall in nearby Des Peres. Even in Seattle at the Westlake Center a Christmas tree lighting ceremony was disrupted by more of these organized mobs.”
One has to wonder, what is there to gain for the so-called “cause” at this point? And what do parents say to their kids when they’re exposed to loud, raucous, and sometimes masked demonstrators?
Do they tell their kids these people are protesting because a 6’4″ 300-pound individual decided to rob a store, attack a store owner, attack a police officer, and was shot as he attempted to take a law enforcement officer’s weapon and then charged him?
Do they tell their children who witnessed this display of mob violence that these are people who don’t believe individuals are responsible for their actions — and that actions have consequences?
Do parents explain to their children that these people who don’t believe in the rule of law and our system of justice — just their demands and hypocritical perverted definition of social justice?
I suppose these mobs would have preferred that Michael Brown had successfully acquired Officer Darren Wilson’s sidearm and shot him. This is the same Officer Wilson who had just answered a call to help a little girl — yet Michael Brown’s mother insists that Wilson set out that day to shoot someone — not to mention the incendiary words of Brown’s step-dad inspiring the mob to “Burn this bitch down.”
Yes, that is a respectable adult example, which others should follow — demonstrably impeccable parenting skills. Perhaps the same stepdad should have spent more time imparting lessons of respect and regard for authority — or maybe even worked with Michael to seek out better opportunities for his life.
Shelby Steele’s book White Guilt and Jason Riley’s Please Stop Helping Us are applicable to the situation in Ferguson — white progressive socialists taking up the “cause” of the poor victimized young black man. However, where are all these voices, the mobs and the media when nearly 320 young black men have been killed this year in Chicago by other young black men — an epidemic spreading throughout black communities all over the country? Nah, that doesn’t fit the political narrative.
Just look at these pictures and ask yourself, is this just another example of Rahm Emanuel’s famous maxim of “never let a good crisis go to waste?” What does a Christmas tree lighting in Seattle have to do with Ferguson, Missouri — a place where most of these elitist progressive socialists have never visited?
Yes, most of these white progressives would never venture into the black community, and if so, why haven’t they gone to Chicago? And why aren’t they advocating for better educational opportunities in these communities — school choice, vouchers, charter schools, and home schooling?
Nope, ain’t happening, because the other mob — the teachers unions — will not have any of that! Why aren’t these progressive socialists going into the black communities and volunteering their time as mentors to young black men and women — teaching them about self-esteem, helping them with grades, and ending the insidious practice of giving checks to young women for having children out of wedlock — keeping black men out of the homes?
Nope, that dawg don’t hunt! It’s easier to demonstrate a false sense of caring by staging “die ins” in malls and scaring shoppers and children wanting to just enjoy the day after Thanksgiving — or a Christmas tree lighting.
And please, spare me the denigrating invectives because I grew up in the inner city with two great black parents who refused to allow me to be a part of the liberal progressive socialist economic dependency plantation.
And my wife Angela and I don’t need your definition of social justice as we are raising and explaining to our daughters what the rule of law means and ensuring that no one can withhold opportunities from them because the greatest assets and weapons are their competence and character.
I find this mob rule disgusting. I find this hijacking of the tragic death of Michael Brown inexplicably wrong. I find this mobocracy a threat to our way of life and the existence of our Republic. I find the actions of these progressive socialists deplorable and racist in itself — just another example of the “soft bigotry of low expectations.”
