Last Tuesday I had the honor of hosting the 38th Annual Salute to the Military. Salute to the Military brings the South Mississippi community together to honor and recognize our men and women in uniform from across the state.
I also had the privilege of welcoming the 23rd Secretary of the United States Air Force Deborah James to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for Salute to the Military. Secretary James has been a fantastic partner and an advocate for the Air Force assets here in South Mississippi.
When her predecessor tried to take our planes and airmen from Keesler, we had to fight back. Secretary James listened to our arguments and made the right call to keep them right here at home. I am honored she was able to be in South Mississippi for this important event to recognize our service men and women.
On Wednesday I hosted the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Ronald Green, on a visit to South Mississippi. Sergeant Major Green is the highest-ranking enlisted Marine and a Mississippi native.
The Sergeant Major spoke during my 5th annual Palazzo Youth Leadership Summit that took place on Thursday, and also visited a recruiting station in Gulfport and toured Keesler Air Force Base during his time in South Mississippi.
As a Marine, I could not have been prouder to welcome Sergeant Major Green to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Not only is he a decorated Marine with a long history of service, he hails from our great state. It was a pleasure to have him here – Semper Fi, sir!
These senior leaders wouldn't be here if what we do here in Mississippi wasn't so important to our national defense. South Mississippi is truly a military community and I'm proud to call it home
