Opioid Epidemic
Our nation is facing a serious opioid epidemic that is tearing apart the lives of individuals and families around the country every day. Our veterans are among one of the largest groups of individuals susceptible to and affected by this epidemic.
Last week in the House we took action to help end this epidemic. We passed several pieces of legislation that will provide treatment to help those affected reclaim their lives and also hold the VA accountable for the alarming rate at which they’re administering pain killers. The PROMISE Act that passed in the House last week helps tackle this problem head on and specifically ensures that our veterans are receiving the quality and safe care they deserve.
Transgender Bathroom Directive
Last week the President issued “guidance” to public school districts directing them to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. I immediately joined my colleagues in sending a letter to the president expressing our concern and disdain for this blatant disregard for the will and values of the American people as well as the Constitution. He has no right to threaten school districts with the denial of funds because they don’t allow students to use the bathroom of their choice regardless of their gender.
He is way over the line on this one. I will continue to fight relentlessly against this illegal and unconstitutional directive.
